At a tumultuous meeting of anti-Vietnam War militants at the Chicago Coliseum in 1969, Bill Ayers helped found the radical Weathermen, launching a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and United States Capitol.
Twenty-six years later, at a lunchtime meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper, Obama met Mr. Ayers, by then an education professor. Their paths have crossed sporadically since then, at a coffee Ayers hosted for Obama’s first run for office, on the schools project and a charitable board, and in casual encounters as Hyde Park neighbors.
Their relationship has become a touchstone for Obama’s opponents. Video clips on YouTube, including a new ad that aired Friday, juxtapose Obama’s face with the young Mr. Ayers or grainy shots of the bombings. In a televised interview last spring, Senator John McCain, his Republican rival, asked: “How can you countenance someone who was engaged in bombings that could have or did kill innocent people?”
More recently, conservative critics who accuse Mr. Obama of a stealth radical agenda have asserted that he has misleadingly minimized his relationship with Mr. Ayers, whom the candidate has dismissed as “a guy who lives in my neighborhood” and “somebody who worked on education issues in Chicago that I know.”
A review of records of the schools project and interviews with a dozen people who know both men, suggest that Mr. Obama, 47, has played down his contacts with Mr. Ayers, 63. But the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called “somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.”.

Although the two radicals-Obomber and Ayers sat together for years on a six member board
and lived next door to each other-they hardly knew each other.
The fundraiser for Obomber that Ayers hosted in his home was actually a get together to distribute Girl Scout cookies and build bird houses.
I just hope that NRO’s Stanley Kurtz ( the definitive authority on AyersObama ) isn’t drinking anything when he reads this NYT fairy tale-because he may aspirate.

This connection goes waaay back (to at least 1982):

When Obama was at Columbia, Ayers was at Bank Street College (BSC), where he received an M.A. in Early Childhood Education -- 371 yards down the street.
BSC has no student housing, everyone lives off Campus. Columbia DOES have housing and encourages students to live on campus. However, Fox News interviewed 400 former students from his graduating class and no-one remembers him!
Presumably Obama lived off campus also.
Obama and Ayers had mutual friends. One was Edward Said, the left-wing Columbia superstar was just recently out of hiding. It is inconceivable, given their concentric politics, that they did not know each other.
Obama won't release his transcripts (actually he won't reveal any documentation from his past). Was it because it would reveal his ties to Ayers, a class in common (BSC has collaborations with Columbia), or maybe a common street address?"

I have worked with many people in a day job or in a non-profit volunteer status or in a committee in a professional association. Had any been revealed to have a Bill Ayres history I’m afraid I would have had to disown the poor slob.
I heard a radio show talking about Ayers dad - is his name Tom? He was important enough to know the Annenbergs and apparently is the one who must have gotten that $50mil grant from the Annenberg Foundation that Bill Ayers and BO used to try to influence Chicago kids - to no avail apparently.
Is there any proof that Ayers Dad helped Obama? I’m not doubting, I’m just wondering where this info came from.
Why would Ayers host a coffee for Hussien Obama is he didnt feel comfortable with his politics? Duh!

This is their pre-emptive piece on Ayers. In a sense, it’s good for McCain since it may backfire for them. It only makes more people ask, “Who is Ayers?”
Whew!!! For a while I was under the assumption the Barry O and William Ayers were good buddies, thankfully the New York Slimes have cleared up this obvious falsehood for me. LOL
Believe it or not, this is good stuff. The fact that the New Yorks slimes are even acknowledging the existence of Ayers is a good thing for McCain... The right wing blogs are starting to take effect and their message is getting through.
I thought they would never admit that Ayers even existed. Now they’re actually being forced to defend Barry O with stories that even mention the names of his flaky associates.
