A group of retired Gurkhas fighting for the right to settle in Britain have won their immigration test case at London's High Court.
They were challenging immigration rules which said that those who retired from the British Army before 1997 did not have an automatic right to stay.
The government said it would now review all Gurkhas' cases.
The regiment moved its main base from Hong Kong to the UK in 1997 and the government had argued that Gurkhas discharged before that date were unlikely to have strong residential ties with the UK.
The judge, Mr Justice Blake, said the Gurkhas' long service, conspicuous acts of bravery and loyalty to the Crown all pointed to a "moral debt of honour" and gratitude felt by British people.

No room for veterans but plenty of room for Islamic terrorists.
Say goodbye to Dear Old Blighty....
When faced with dervishes, Ghurkas are good to have!!!!!
Agree.....they deserve a place they choose for serving their country well like any one who serves in the US military. A proven record, an honorable discharge is IMO a direct path to the front of the line for citizenship here or the UK.
Just my opinion as stated.......Stay safe !
These guys are the “Good Guys” This should have happened many years ago!
The US has recognized Royal Lao soldiers with veteran’s benefits. Allowing the Gurkhas to stay in country is the least they could do.
You can bet your booty that I don’t want to be the one to tell those boys to go home!!
Some of the best fighters in the world!
Militant
smart not to rule against a bunch of tough, mean, sobs with two foot knives and the knowledge to use them.
Britain will need these retired Gurkhas again.
Well done, Justice Blake. Well done indeed.

About bloody time, at last the politicans have got something right.
The Gurkhas have always been wise about using the most suitable weapons and tactics suited to the landscape.
It should come as not much of a surprise that when their battles are of the legal persuasion fought in courtrooms, those principles still apply. Last time at bat, when the court case was over pay scales and pensions disparate from other British troops, they picked a pretty interesting legal representative- the Prime Minister's wife.
If there's anything that scares me more than having a mad Gurkha coming after me, it's the thought of a mad Gurkha coming after me, accompanied by a lawyer/ barrister.
Hello?...they WON the right...
