Sarah Palin—The Fall Girl?
Human Events ^ | 9/26/08 | D. R. Tucker

Are certain conservatives setting Sarah Palin up to fail?

With the recent news that conservative commentator Kathleen Parker has joined the ranks of anti-Palin conservatives George Will, Charles Krauthammer, David Frum and Ross Douthat (as well as moderate-conservative David Brooks), one has to wonder how these folks will respond if McCain and Palin lose to Barack Obama and Joseph Biden on November 4.

It’s likely that Parker, Will, Krauthammer, Frum, Douthat and Brooks will attempt to blame Palin for a GOP loss, arguing that she was not ready for prime time and that her supposed lack of knowledge drove away independents. While these commentators all deserve respect for their accomplishments, a potential effort by these commentators to blame Palin for the loss will only cause more divisions on the right.

To various degrees, these commentators have issues with what they perceive to be the glorification of conservative populism—and they all seem to view Palin as an embodiment of that populism. In their eyes, Palin seems to symbolize a “guns-babies-Jesus” vision of conservatism that alienates key voters, especially those influenced by America’s secular culture.

These commentators seemingly would have preferred a Republican like Mitt Romney or Bobby Jindal as the McCain’s second-in-command: both Romney and Jindal are conservatives whose public images lack “culture-war” overtones. No one really thinks of conservative populism when they look at Romney and Jindal: Palin, on the other hand, is now seen as the hero of what liberals derisively referred to four years ago as “Jesusland.”

Nobody is more unprepared to lead this nation than Obama. Voting “present” will not get the job done.

The conservatives listed are the old, Rockefeller-type elite Republicans. George Wills is an especially good example of this group.

I’m disappointed in Krauthammer. The rest of them are not real conservatives. Too snotty.

Got a donation solicitation from Palin today. Less than half an hour later, there was a check in the mail. Fastest I have ever donated to a candidate. “Nuff said”.

I don’t know if McCain will win or lose. I do think putting her on the ticket turned the polical world on its ear and made McCain competitive.

Krauthammer and Will didn’t like Fred Thompson either. They don’t like ANY Washington outsider, or anyone who didn’t seek their approval first. Eff them and the tutu’s they rode in with.

They are this year. Voting FOR her, not against her.

Anyone who won’t vote for McCain BECAUSE of Palin is not a conservative.

The old GOP elite think that only the good old boys with their high brow educations can succeed. I can not wait for the Governor to take office amid their Chicken Little screeching.

It’s kinda weird, right before the debates too. If it were 1994 or 1996, I’d suspect they were being blackmailed because they have gay and/or drug secrets, it worked pretty well for Bubba once he got ahold of those 1,000 FBI files. Or, maybe these idiots are just pinheads.

Wow..talk about lowering expectations, what next “Sarah Palin or lump of coal”?

IMO, those in punditry land are taking heat for not joining the chorus, they have not even given Governor Palin a chance to speak on a national stage in a debate and they already are throwing dirt on her?

Shame on those people, and K Parker is a no name, yet those pundits speak more highly of her then they do Governor Palin, trying to make a name for the lady on Governor Palin’s reputation is unseemly.

total BS....Palin has drawn millions of people to the Pub ticket and I would guess she has drawn millions and millions in for the campaign coffers....

she does not shine in little sit downs and I don't know why they keep putting her in that position...

she is best when able to converse with real people, citizens, not set up jobs....

and these fat bottoms that keep knocking her down are the main reason Sarah Palin is exactly what we need....a non Washington insider with actual life experiences....

and FOR ALL THEIR BLUSTER, WHAT WOULD THESE IDIOTS WISH?....THAT A WEAK EMPTY SOCIALIST SUIT WIN THE PRESIDENCY OVER THE STRONG AND PRINCIPLED JOHN MCCAIN WHO HAS PROVED HIS PATRIOTISM?

just stop it folks.....Sarah is our hope ...she has sacrificed everything for us.....we owe her our strongest support....

ONWARD TO VICTORY....ONWARD TO THE WHITE HOUSE.

“it would not even be a race without Palin.”

Exactly. It’s amazing that Palin is still taking a beating when the VP on the other ticket thinks ‘President’ Roosevelt went on TV during the stock market crash of ‘29, thinks that we’re negotiating with Iran, and who thinks the surge was a failure. These are just the examples I can think of right now, obviously there are more. Palin’s not good in an interview? Biden’s not good when he THINKS. I’m sticking with Sarah...
