Reid: Bush ???absent??? on bailout
Andy Barr 24 minutes ago
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called out President Bush Wednesday over what the Nevada Democrat is characterizing as a lack of leadership in steering the proposed $700 billion government bailout of financial companies through Congress.
President Bush has been absent from what may well be the most important debate on economic policy in a generation, Reid said during a speech on the Senate floor.
Other than two brief statements to the press and a press release admonishing the Congress to accept his bailout plan immediately President Bush has been silent. We must not forget: George Bush is still the President of the United States. It is time for him to address our country.
This is not the Paulson plan. This is not the Bernanke plan. This is not the Congress's plan. This is the Bush plan, Reid said.
It is time for him to take ownership and demonstrate leadership. He is our President, and it is time for him to realize that the buck stops with him.

The President has stated his position. He backs the bill.
Now lead the Senate, you idiot!!
I hope Nevada is thoroughly disgusted with this complete wastral of a Senator...he needs to be thrown out on his sorry backside unless divine intervention happens and he has a major stroke...
OK Dingy: Turn on your TV at 9:00 PM EDT...
Reid would know....he’s been absent from reality for some time now.....
Reid belongs to all those liberals who pushed Fannie Mae...He’s from the same bunch of losers who ruined and mismanaged Fannie Mae Throw Schumer and Baney Franke in there too....
We either have to have a revolt in this country or vote the damn Demon crats out!!!
Harry, you’ve got to be kidding.
And Reid apparently was absent when Bush tried to correct this 5 years ago. What a Dum-bass.
Either senile or off his meds........
off his senile meds.
Fine Harry, if you don’t like the proposal, put forward one of your own.
Same tactic they used on social security reform - attack the proposal without offering any alternative.
If Congress keeps dithering around with this for another couple of days, the markets will get very nervous and very bad things will begin to happen.
I never thought that anyone would make me appreciate Tom Daschle as Senate Majority leader, but this guy comes close.
Now Reid.
Ladies and gentlemen, is this the first time a democrat controlled Congress has admitted its incompetence and deep rot of leadership, and has defaulted to the Republican party to take leadership of a national crisis?
The media and pollsters tell us the election is swinging to Obama because “people trust democrats with the economy”.
Well people of America...the democrats in control of Congress now, at this moment in history- have the economy
And look what they are doing with it.
John McCain has suspended his campaign and is flying back to Washington now to take charge. Love him or dislike him- it's time to pray for this old warrior as he takes on his first Presidential level crisis.
I need not even speculate about the image of Obama like a deer in the headlights this week, and tonight, with this crisis. I imagine McCain will give him a seat beside him at the table tonight or tomorrow, so it looks like he is involved in “bipartisan” leadership.
But what about the next crisis we face. Imagine Obama in the Oval office on 9-11. Imagine Obama and Biden in the oval office when Israel or Iran launches an attack on nuclear weapons sites, or when truck bomb IED’s go off all over America. Imagine.
WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids performance last week was notable for two things his zeal to protect the corrupt, political cash cows Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his subversion of one of the Senates most noble traditions of open debate.
Things came to a head when South Carolinas Republican Sen. Jim DeMint sought to offer an amendment barring political donations and lobbying by the two mortgage giants.
Allowing these two political monsters to dole out campaign cash (an astonishing $800,000 so far this election cycle) and spend a whopping $200 million on direct and indirect lobbying is, in effect, using tax dollars to agitate for more government cash. DeMints amendment was appropriate and should have been considered.
Reid, however, protected the Fannie/Freddie sleaze train, flatly rejecting DeMints several compromise offers.
Apparently, senile Ol’ Harry has been napping instead of paying attention to the country ........... again!
Whats wrong Harry? Butt checks getting a little too close together now that Teddy’s big red nose is stuck up in the Bay State. If your looking for another sycophant to squeal every time you make a sharp turn I doubt if The President is your man.
Reid: Save me, W!!!
What a loser.
Bush, absent???
Then who the hell does Hank Paulson work for, Mr. Idiot Reid????
