What a difference a week can make. Seven days ago, Democrats were in a state of political panic after Sarah Palin's selection as running mate had helped push John McCain ahead in the polls. Now it may be the Republicans' turn.
...
WHAT HAPPENED? The timing of the McCain slump (or Obama surge, as the case may be) makes it difficult to distinguish the causes.
...
Despite all the woes afflicting the GOP ticket in recent days, however, it may be too soon for Republicans to hit the panic button.
Granted, the dire economic situation could be expected to hurt Republicans, not only because of the two-term Republican in the White House, but also because the GOP is closely identified with big business in the minds of voters. Yet Obama appears poorly positioned to take advantage of the current crisis.
Obama raked in lots of campaign contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, placed disgraced former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson in charge of his running-mate search committee, and reportedly solicited advice from another former Fannie Mae CEO, Franklin Raines.

Panic??? Hell NO!
Definitely not a time for panic. Time to stay on the offensive and continue to stay on top of the lies and smears and call them out immediately. It seems to be working thus far. Not the time to play nice. Obama’s people play hardball and we must do the same regardless of what the media says.
Agreed. It made some very good points.
I can’t wait to see Palin eviscerate Biden in the debates.
The WSJ had a good article about debate prep.No teleprompters for the Anointed One. Not good!
Last week was the McCain I knew and expected, attacking Republicans and running on , “I am more socialist than them”. Prior to that I was surprised to see him run MORE as conservative than he really is , which helped him, unlike predictions and advice from MSNBC. He looked like a joke last week.
If the bailouts buy at least some time and forestall any additional blows to the economy, these problems will be largely ignored on Election Day.
I confess to sitting on the outside of all the jumping up and down over Palin's selection as VP running mate. It was a nice shot to the D's solar plexus, knocked the wind out of them, but it remains to be seen if she will leave them on the mat.
McCain is going to win this. Just do your part. Vote, and get others to turn out and vote. Energized Republicans will assure that the coattails Palin has given McCain will get us a boost in Congress.
I wouldn't count on that. Yeah, he makes gaffes. But so does she. They'll both be on their best behavior. She may, however, benefit from the lower expectations the media and liberals (but I repeat myself) have set for her.
Hard to believe those that voted for Bush (though a lot Poed at him now ) will vote for Obama
Not hard to believe that significant numbers of blue collar democrats and Hillary democrats will NOT vote for Obama
Obama is picking up support in a lot of places. This is no time to be overconfident.
Liberals panic, Conservatives roll up their sleeves and go to work.
Moreover, the white Dems are going to do the job for us. All those crackers in the Land of Dixie whose southern roots go back to the antebellum period are going to vote the way great grandaddy would've voted. The KKK was started by white Democrats.
He's well done burger between the Dems in the unions who will vote to hang onto their guns in the northeast to the white Dems in the south and far west who will vote against him on similar grounds PLUS that all important (to them) racial context.
Who's hitting the panic button? These op-ed writers and talking heads need to get out of the Washington-New York corridor once in a while. No one in "flyover" country is in a panic. We're eagerly and hopefully awaiting Nov. 4.
Rush reading this article which appears on Drudge now:
'How the Democrats Created the Financial Crisis'...
Yes. The issue is whether we have enough conservatism in the Bush Administration and in the McCain ticket to be able to take on the issue.
I wouldn’t count on that.
Uh,yeah,I would. To say Biden makes gaffes is like saying a powder puff is a pincushion. He can’t help himself. One of his debate advisers told him “don’t talk too much”.
Right. He doesn’t simply make the occasional gaffe-he puts his entire foot in his mouth.
And during a rally last week in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gov. Palin told the crowd it was good to be in Grand Rapids [Michigan].
