Sources: Intense Pressure Led To Palin UN Snub

CBS 2 HD Has Learned Democrats Threatened To Attack Jewish Groups' Tax Exempt Status Over VP Nominee Invite

Marcia Kramer NEW YORK (CBS) ― Hillary Clinton won't be speaking at Monday's anti-Iran rally at the United Nations -- and neither will Republican Sarah Palin or any other politicians for that matter.

The reason? A heated behind the scenes tug-of-war.

Sources tell CBS 2 HD that a decision to disinvite Palin from the high profile rally after Clinton pulled out in a huff came as the result of intense pressure from Democrats.

"This is insulting. This is embarrassing, especially to Gov. Palin, to me and I think it should be to every single New Yorker," Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, told CBS 2 HD.

Sources say the axes were out for Palin as soon as Sen. Clinton pulled out because she did not want to attend the same event as the Republican vice presidential candidate.

"I have never seen such raw emotion -- on both sides," said someone close to the situation.

The groups sponsoring the rally against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at the UN were reportedly told, "it could jeopardize their tax exempt status" if they had Palin and not Clinton or Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden on hand.

So all politicians were disinvited, most prominently, Palin.

"It's an absolute shame that this has happened," Hikind said. "To threaten organizations … to threaten the Conference of Presidents that if you don't withdraw the invitation to Gov. Palin we're going to look into your tax exempt status … that's McCarthyism."

Another Jewish group tried to step into the breach by inviting Palin to a different protest a day earlier.

"I'm absolutely appalled at the behavior of the Democrats," said Bob Kunst of Defenders.net. "I'm a Democrat and for the first time in my life I'm going to vote Republican. I can't take it anymore."

As for Sen. Clinton, she brushed right past CBS 2 HD's Lou Young when he tried to ask her about the issue on Thursday night.

Lou Young: "Were the organizers of Monday's rally right to depoliticize it?"

Clinton walked past Young, said "Thank you all very much" and started hugging people.

Clinton's people tell CBS 2 HD she intends to make some statement of support for the protestors. She is also expected to attack Ahmadinejad's pro-nuke, anti-Israel stance.

The organizers of this important event should find a way to take their ire out on the Democrats. If it is a Jewish org, they’ll know how to do that. The Dems have taken the wind out of their sails.

Maybe CBS can email Colmes, since he’s convinced that there was no pressure involved in the Palin dis-invite.

geez, he’s a despicable idiot

That is not McCarthyism, it is typical liberal Democrat tactics.

Every single thing they do backfires. Hilary is envious to the point of vitriol, and the Dem party is contemptible. They completely forgot the whole reason for the demonstration. Or maybe they didn’t. Maybe they never cared in the first place.

But Sarah’s halo is shining even brighter.

While I believe everything is political to the Clintons, did she do this, fully anticipating this reaction from some Democrat voters, to hurt Obama because she thinks her best shot at the White House is against McCain in 2012?

Why is this not in the MSM?

Because Charlie Gibson is too busy doing high fives and getting fist-bumps from his MSM leftie pals for the lies, distortions, false editing and misquotes he used to smear Sarah Palin.

Oh, I’m sure all Jews will be thrilled when the imperious Mrs. Clinton deigns to make a statement!

She already made her statement, the egotistical little wimp.

Sir/ma’m

I was mortified to learn of your “disinvitation” today of VIPs you had invited to address your event, when it was apparent that the disinvitation was directed specifically at Governor Sarah Palin.

The consistent support shown by Palin and her political colleagues must certainly have been noted and appreciated by supporters of Israel. I do not think that she deserved the embarrassment and humiliation of “disinvitation” to this event, especially when she showed eagerness to participate in the event and to advocate support for your cause.

This humiliation is undeserved by her - she accepted your invite in good faith. It is notable that not Governor Palin, but, instead, another invitee, Senator Clinton, whose actions caused this awkward situation. For your organization to attempt to correct this situation by showing such disrespect to Governor Palin shows, in my opinion, spectacular insensitivity and poor judgement on your part.

I can only express my dismay and deep disappointment in your artless actions. I do not believe your cause would have been hurt had you gone ahead with the event with the participants who were willing to join you, but I think your cause is severely damaged by your self-serving and political move offering only the most humiliating insult to your most loyal friends.

The Democrats think they own the IRS? They probably have plenty of flunkies and errand boys inside the organization. But threatening a religious group if it doesn’t go along with you? That’s Nazi.

Democrats - They are hell bent on driving their own voters away with these ludicrous acts!

The Democrat Party is made up of so many opposing factions, each with it own 'single issue' agenda that its surprising that they have not self-distructed long ago. For their 'leadership' it must be like juggling a dozen balls and trying to rub your belly at the same time.
