My theory is this regarding New England. People from all over the country send their snotty kids up here to go to our universities and colleges. They like the area so much they end up staying (as we have the best weather, hospitals, restaurants, schools and just about everything else in the nation) and that’s why we have so many liberals.
I think your theory is correct. As someone who’s lived here all my life I can say that almost every conservative Massachusetts resident I know is from NE originally, and almost every liberal I know moved here from out of state.
