Ford ably served in the US Navy during WWII as a navigator, and antiaircraft battery officer aboard the light carrier USS Monterey.

I agree. Nothing against Ford, for I thought he did a credible job under difficult circumstances, but the US Navy without a USS Enterprise is unthinkable.

I hope they name it the Jimmy Carter. It will piss him off every time he hears that the Jimmy Carter is going off to war. It would also be the first time since 1976 that Jimmy Carter has done anything in his nation's interest.

Jimmy muttering darkly to himself, "I don't believe they named a machine of destruction after me. And what if one of its planes bombs a terrorist headquarters? How could I live with myself?"

there used to be a law requiring capital ships (battleships at the time) to be named after the States. Doesn’t matter anyway. Obama will cancel it.

Ford is better than calling it the USS Volvo!

I think they should never have started naming carriers after politicians, especially not that one. Naming them after old carriers would be good. I would love for them to return to the Midway class custom of naming bird farms after places naval aviators made their names shine. USS Marianas (AKA Turkey Shoot) and USS Yankee Station would be proud names indeed!

But Ford????

Why first Bush?

You can bet money that somewhere in the new class will be a USS William Clinton, probably the third one. Maybe even a USS Barack Obama.
