California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner today announced that he has officially launched a 2010 gubernatorial exploratory committee.
This morning I filed the necessary papers with the California Secretary of State to establish an exploratory committee for Governor.
I am taking the first formal step toward running for Governor in 2010 because I believe in California and I understand that meeting the challenges of the 21st century requires new and innovative ideas.
Today, we no longer face competition from only our neighboring states; we also face challenges from competitor nations like China and India. If California is to remain a world leader, it is imperative that we take bold steps to meet the challenges posed by a rapidly changing and increasingly complex global economy.
Californians are frustrated with their government and are right to expect their elected leaders to work together to address Californias biggest challenges. Serious reforms are needed to make our state government work again.
Having built successful businesses in the Silicon Valley, I know from experience how government can both help and hinder efforts to create companies and the jobs to go along with them.
As a volunteer school teacher, I have seen first hand the successes and failings of our public school system. And as Californias Insurance Commissioner, I know the challenges in managing and leading a huge public sector entity.
Throughout the exploratory committee process, Insurance Commissioner Poizner will begin meeting with business owners, volunteers, community leaders, educators and Californians from all walks of life and from every corner of the state to discuss real and lasting solutions to our states complex problems.
Poizner also announced that former Senate Republican Leader Jim Brulte will serve as the Campaign Chairman of the Exploratory Committee. Brulte served as the Republican Leader in both the Assembly and State Senate. Brulte is also a former Finance Chairman of the California Republican Party.
In an early show of support for a possible 2010 gubernatorial run, Board of Equalization Members Michelle Steele and Bill Leonard and 21 current Republican legislators have also endorsed Poizner, including:
Senator Sam Aanestad (R Grass Valley)
Senator Roy Ashburn (R Bakersfield)
Senator Jim Battin (R Palm Desert)
Senator Bob Dutton (R Inland Empire)
Senator Tom Harman (R Orange)
Senator Bob Margett (R Glendora)
Senator George Runner (R Antelope Valley)
Assemblyman Anthony Adams (R Hesperia)
Assemblyman Joel Anderson (R La Mesa)
Assemblyman John J. Benoit (R Palm Desert)
Assemblyman Tom Berryhill (R Modesto)
Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee (R San Luis Obispo)
Assemblywoman Jean Fuller (R Bakersfield)
Assemblyman Ted Gaines (R Roseville)
Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia (R Cathedral City)
Assemblyman Guy S. Houston (R San Ramon)
Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries (R Riverside)
Assemblyman Alan Nakanishi (R Lodi)
Assemblyman Jim Silva (R Huntington Beach)
Assemblyman Cameron Symth (R Santa Clarita)
Assemblyman Van Tran (R Costa Mesa)

Poizner, 51, was elected Insurance Commissioner in 2006. A highly-successful businessman/entrepreneur, Poizner founded several technology companies in the Silicon Valley. His last company, SnapTrack, pioneered life-saving technology that put GPS receivers into cell phones. This technology is now the industry standard and can be found in more than 700 million cell phones around the world.
Poizner has spent years in public service including serving as a volunteer teacher in Californias public schools, co-founding the California Charter Schools Association and working in the White House as the Director of Critical Infrastructure Protection in the National Security Council during the 9/11 crisis.
Poizner moved to California 30 years ago to attend Stanford University, where he earned a Master's Degree with Honors in Business Administration. Prior to that, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas. Poizner now lives in Los Gatos with his wife and daughter.

Pesonally, I want to see Ray Haynes or Chuck Norris Jet Li get in it too.
The Murky ran an article on his tossing his hat in the race on the obits page. Coincidence? ;-)
If he is the candidate, I guarantee you I will leave that one blank in 2010.
Just so everyone knows: He ran (and lost) for a CA Assembly seat in 2004. He refused to be in any way associated with the GOP. He never visited the GOP Victory HQ in Los Gatos (basically his town), and he didn’t even want his materials in the office, to be given out to Republicans. At events, he refused to say if he would vote for Kerry or Bush. He sent out mailers to Independent and Democrat voters attacking Republicans. I could go on, but you get the idea.
The "Team Poizner" donkey, who tailed the RINO around at a convention a few years back. Hope he (or she) returns at future conventions and events.
He may be a t-sip, but this Aggie may have to vote for him.
I guess party loyalty has to go over college loyalty when you live in California.
So he’s not really a republican.
It makes me furious when people run as a republican and don’t really support the party.
I take this back.

He used to call himself an "Arnold Republican." He's the creation of the infiltrators in the leadership of the CA GOP who have vowed to turn it into the "Purple Party." Meg Whitman is another one who loved to donate to Democrats before her venture into politics, supporting McCain.
Potential GOP candidates who support the existing GOP platform, or conservatives, need not apply. The Party leadership will actually work against them.
*** RINO ***
You got that wrong,
why not just come out and state the obvious,
Poizner is a Jackazz.
I don't even wanna vote for McCain and was gonna vote for "none of the above," but I can't stand the thought of either Saul Alinsky's students, Hillary or Obama, getting in the Whitehouse!!! (shudder!)
Damned Commonists!!!
That sums it up.

California hasn’t elected a conservative as Governor since George Deukmajein in 1986. It also hasn’t elected a conservative to the Senate since George Murphy in 1964.
This guy sounds like he’s to the left of Arnie and makes Pete Wilson look practically Reganesque. Making it easier to hike property taxes? Gore recount committee? Really?
Conservatives (and moderates) need to find someone else. I’m not sure how much more damage the rats could do if they controlled redistricting they played it safe last time but.....
Sam Hayakawa, although not as Conservative as Murphy, was better than Wilson.
