Politico notes a change in direction for Barack Obama that reeks of desperation, as well as a tendency to listen to the worst advice coming from his party. The Hopemonger has departed, Carrie Budoff Brown reports, replaced with a drearily recognizable Democratic presidential archetype, the kind that lost the last two elections to George Bush. Obama has traded in his one positive asset in this campaign, and for a very specific reason:
Barack Obama sounds more like a man trying to shake a rain cloud these days, dispensing a teeth-clenching, I-get-your-pain stump speech in town after town that offers only snippets of the unbridled optimism that long permeated his campaign pitch. Beginning in the days before his partys convention, the inspirational has given way to the traditional: attacks on John McCain, a register of policy prescriptions and partisan language with the sting of a needle.
You assured voters in New Hampshire, as well as the rest of the country, that you would not tolerate the Republican attack ads and smear campaign that has come to really dominate politics, doctoral student Glenn Grasso, 39, told Obama at a town hall meeting last week in Concord. So for those of us who have given you our support and more importantly our money, when and how are you going to start fighting back? Acknowledging that some of his supporters were nervous, Obama responded that he was hitting hard but that he would not get into the mud. The hopemonger is gone.

“Obama responded that he was hitting hard but that he would not get into the mud.”
No, but he certainly got into pigs and lipstick and stinky old fish.
The man is lacking in so many ways.
Makes it kind of obvious since he nixed going back on SNL. I hope to h*ll that Sarah Palin is not accepting any invitation to go on that worthless show.
I am waiting for a Biden look alike with a terrible head of hair with fake plugs you can see from one mile away.
But, but, but...I thought he came out of the mud from which the Chicago political machine emanates.
Would it matter if the “Hopemonger” were still here?
I don’t think so. ‘Bama’s problem can be summed up in one word, Palin.
The right was uninspired, even depressed over the choices in this campaign. Palin changed the dynamic. Everyone who’s not a far left wingnut, now has an alternative, a real change in direction. People have something to vote for now, an honest, outside the beltway candidate.

Please, please, please...all the Bama Babes in the world are begging FReepers to stop abbreviating his name to 'Bama. It truly hurts our steel magnolia hearts to the core. There are enough derogatory names we can come up with, that we don't have to use one so cherished in our state.
Y'all come back now, heah!!
:) Thanks.
The recent weeks have shown us how Barry handles a modicum of adversity and gives us insight into how he would behave in a crisis.
He cannot handle stress.
He cannot lead.
He’s gone into a virtual fetal position .
The thought of this collapsing wimp as POTUS should make every Country First American
fly awake at 3 am drenched in cold sweat .
I rather like the Øbama that some are adopting.
As do I!! I hate to admit it, but the only way I can figure out how to do it is to cut and paste. There isn’t some keyboard trick for it, is there?

It's easy:
(bold)ampersandOslash(unbold)bama
Replace the word "bold" with b, () with <> and "ampersand" with &
Øbama
OH LOOK, NewHampshireDuo, I did it!!!
Thank you so much. I guess you can teach an old dog mama new tricks.
These dummass supporters of his that want him to “hit back hard” don’t realize that the image of the “angry young black man” will absolutely SINK him.
Congrats! I’m pretty basic with HTML but I can copy real good.
I’ve been doing the Ø on a Mac using shift/option/O, no html. Don’t know if it’s the same on a PC.
Thanks word warrior, but I couldn’t do it on my PC.
Trust me, my next machine will be a Mac. Of course, I’m so far out in the boonies, we’re still on dial up.
Don’t everybody groan at once...I can hear you.
It’s shift/option/O with the O being the letter O not the number, don’t know if you tried it that way. Øbama
