Obama just released a statement saying Ike was like the storm of job loss, healthcare and blaming John McCain...the guy can’t take a day off.

There is no such thing as a libertarian who tends left.

The left wants control of every aspect of individuals’ lives. Libertarians, by definition, want the State’s hand off them, with the only legitimate purpose of government being the defense of individual rights. Total opposites.

As a “conservative libertarian”, I agree with you. He calls himself a libertarian, but his commentaries tend left.

I posted that so that you could understand where his bias might be.

More Obama drama....nothing like using a disaster for political purposes.

I don’t know how to take this. I mean, it reads as good news. Except that Kerry was electorally ahead at this time and well, thank God we didn’t have to deal with him as president. Nothing’s certain, which is why I volunteered for my local Republican party this week.

I think the “leans left” in the libertarian context is probably “social issues”. Unfortunately we get locked down in left-right thinking. The (Liberal - Conservative) (authoritarian - libertarian) plane is much better.

We're in the same boat (student of Ayn Rand here). I wasn't attacking your description...I hear left libertarian used as if it has a meaning, and the closest description I've been able to put together is a hippie who stays mellow enough not to fall into the usual rabid resentment that makes them want to smash and loot anything productive.

Anyway, things would be much simpler if everyone would just take the world's shortest political quiz (and all politicians were required to list their answers).

I believe that Gore was well ahead of Bush in the polls in ‘00 at this point (as was Dukakis against Bush 1).

I think it means that “independents” wait and hope that somebody will come out of the left that they can pull the lever for. But as the election looms closer, they realize that the left has nothing new to offer.

Call it the “conservative effect” for lack of a better term, since 60% of people consistantly self-identify as being on the conservative end of the spectrum.

I can’t even imagine the feeling of hearing Vice-President Elect Palin......but this thing is fair from over. But I do think McCain Palin has more to offer independants at the moment.

I guess he doesn't realize that McCain didn't cause the storm? He forgot that The Almighty has a hand in things..

A left leaning libertarian wants the government to stay away from the private decisions he makes in his life that ( conservatives ) others might disagree with.

Whether it involves religion, or health care, etc.

Some, however, don’t support things like a common defence, and rule of law, and that’s off the edge. Didn’t Ron Paul say we should not go to war?

Not true, if you study the Constitution/history of the courts you realize that the so called “culture war” was really intiated by the left (they’re the agressors), conservatives are the ones (including traditional values by corrupt government officials and courts) on defence here against big government intrusion. Really libertarian =/(does not conflict)= with conservative both social and fiscally!
