"2008 Centennial/Dedication Schedule at a Glance"
Thursday, Sept. 11...

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Culture/Society; News/Current Events; US: Missouri
KEYWORDS: 7thanniversary; 911; academia; bias; highereducation; journalism; msm; msmdeathwatch

Try finding any specific note on September 11, 2001 on todays
schedule of events for the 100th Anniversary/Celebration
for the School of Journalism at The University of Missouri.
Maybe I missed it.

But the country's oldest and premier incubator of journalists
does have time for "The Party of The Century" and a "Twilight Festival".
(located near bottom of the liked schedule of events webpage)

Can't let a downer like even a short ceremony to commemorate
the real 9-11 put a damper on the party today.

Here's the short notes about "The Party of The Century" and "Twilight Festival".

Columbia Missourian to Throw "Party of the Century" Sept. 11
The Columbia Missourian will celebrate its 100th birthday Sept. 11
with the "Party of the Century," a major concert at The Blue Note
held in conjunction with Columbia's "We Always Swing" Jazz Series.
Son Venezuela, one of the Midwest's top salsa dance bands,
is the headliner for the show. The party is during the Sept. 10-12
centennial/dedication celebration of the Missouri School of
Journalism and Reynolds Journalism Institute.

Tiger Twilight Festival to Celebrate Mizzou Pride Sept. 11 On the
evening of Sept. 11, guests of the centennial/dedication
celebration can enjoy their own social time and the free Tiger
Twilight Festival, an annual celebration of Mizzou pride in
downtown Columbia. The street-fair event features a variety of
live music, activities and a concert by Marching Mizzou.

(VOA’s comment: I suppose even a small ceremony on 9-11 at the UofMo
Journalism School wouldn’t go over well with an employer of some
Emeritus professor...)

MU emeritus helps train Al-Jazeera staff

The potential for controversy over a relationship with Al-Jazeera is
not lost on officials at the journalism school. They haven’t forgotten
state lawmakers’ criticism in 2001 when KOMU-TV wouldn’t allow
broadcast reporters to wear American flag lapel pins.

(Note from VOA: KOMU-TV is an NBC affiliate that is AFAIK run by
the UofMO School of Journalism.
The station’s fleet of Ford Escapes bear license plates with the
Missouri State Seal just like state vehicles.)

Pardon the ping...
I thought you might enjoy this bit of media bias...where it’s inculcated
in future journalists.
