Former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Wednesday that former Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas, called him on Tuesday urging him to endorse John McCain, sparking charges from Democrats that the former McCain adviser is still active on behalf of the Republican presidential nominee.
"I got a phone call yesterday and it was a bit of a surprise to me because their request was that I endorse John McCain. The argument was, 'he would do a little less harm than the other candidate,'" said Paul.

another reason he is a *former* advisor
why waste the nickel on the loon........?
Darn, I guess the 13 people who voted for Ron Paul will not be voting for the Palin-McCain Ticket.
But Ron Paul got over 1.1 million primary votes this year.
They should just ignore that twit.
By doing this it gives the media an anti McCain story of the day to change the news cycle.
Stupid idea by somebody...they already have the fringe voters “modeled” and they aren’t needed.
Ron Paul ran and lost. Badly. He got his ass kicked and now he is crying like a little girl and wants to play spoiler.
He can man up and try again in 4 years, or he can play junior attention whore and try to mess things up because he didn’t get his way.
Whatever respect I once might have had for him has evaporated.
Ron Paul: GROW UP AND GO HOME!
And you don’t think Obambi/Axelrod haven’t tried to reach out to Paul and his supporters? Nice try newbie.
Ron who??
Ron Paul and the other quasi-traitor-terrorist supporter, Bob Barr, should pack up and go to South America and keep an eye out for UFOs.
The guy held his “Convention” in Minneapolis the same time as the Republicans held theirs.
Hoping to attract some curiosity seekers across the river I suppose.
I voted for Paul in the primary. Hunter was out by the time FL voted.
I will vote for the GOP ticket ONLY because I’m interested in securing a spot for Palin in (hopefully) four years.
However, I’m not fooling myself- if we don’t do something drastic about our systemic monetary problems, we’re going to be royally screwed financially. Paul was the only one addressing this issue at it’s root. For that he deserves credit, not ridicule.
That has zero relevance on my opinion or the fact that Paul did get over a million votes and that is no small thing. Especially in swing states like Pennsylvania and Nevada where Paul got 14% of the vote. Nice try moron.
Door. Ass. Bang. No great loss.
Phil Gramm and Ron Paul have never gotten along well to my knowledge. Earlier this year, he was asked about Paul and Gramm said he “never could get a bill out of committee because they are so poorly written and lacked any detail as to how” (paraphrased from memory)..
I’m guessing Gramm and Paul are no longer friends after this. What a jerk Paul is to reveal the phone call. He knows that this is providing fodder for Gramm’s opponents. This is why Paul has no real influence on the national scene. Pathetic little man.
Ah, so they weren’t friends. Not surprised. Still a crappy thing for Paul to do though.
