Sarah Palin: Strong on Israel; Strong Enough to Prevent a Nuclear Iran - A Friend to the Jewish Community
|
Palin: Compliments McCain, A Strong Choice for the Jewish Community: By choosing Gov. Sarah Palin as the vice-presidential candidate, John McCain once again demonstrated a commitment to challenging politics-as-usual. As governor of Alaska, Palin has enjoyed a strong working relationship with Alaska's Jewish community. She has shown sensitivity to the concerns of the community and has been accessible and responsive. Palin has a proven track record of experienced and principled leadership. Palin has been a leader on the critical issue of energy independence and lessening our dependence on foreign oil.
Palin is Strongly Pro-Israel: Gov. Palin is strongly pro-Israel and recognizes the strategic importance of the U.S. - Israel relationship. As governor, she has established a solid relationship with the Jewish community of Alaska. Palin's record includes her support of the community's desire to create the Alaska Jewish Historical Museum and attending the reading of Alaska's historic resolution commemorating Israel's 60th anniversary. In her office in Juneau, she hung an Israeli flag to show her commitment to the Jewish community.
Palin is Committed to Stopping a Nuclear Iran: Like Sen. McCain, Gov. Palin opposes Barack Obama's pledge to meet with Iranian President Ahmadenijad without pre-conditions, in the first year of the next president's term. Gov. Palin understands the threat of a nuclear Iran and is committed to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. During Palin's convention speech accepting the vice-presidential nomination, she clearly stated:
· "Terrorist states are seeking nuclear weapons without delay; he [Obama] wants to meet them without preconditions. Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America; [Obama]'s worried that someone won't read them their rights." -- Gov. Sarah Palin, 9/3/08.
An Unconventional Republican: Palin is not the typical Washington pick. A former commercial fisherman and mother of five children will bring a unique perspective to the presidential campaign. Her frontier spirit has already benefited John McCain and sparked excitement about the entire Republican ticket. Together, the two are a dynamic team.
Gov. Palin has shown that she is not wedded to party politics nor does she play politics-as-usual. Palin is an unconventional Republican, not endorsing Bush in 2000, but instead endorsing Steve Forbes for President in 1996 and 2000. There are some Democrat leaders that are trying to falsely place Palin as a supporter of someone else or make Palin into something she is not. They manipulate an errant button or fundraiser or a guest speaker at Palin's church. Don't believe it-get the facts. Democrats should be cautious when playing this game. Their candidate, Barack Obama embraced an anti-American, anti-Semitic pastor, Jeremiah Wright, who was both a personal friend and mentor. Former PLO Spokesperson Rashid Khalidi was another personal friend and raised funds for Barack Obama's failed Congressional campaign in 2000. Democrats are doing a disservice to themselves and the Jewish community if they think with one or two distorted facts that they can fool the Jewish community.
Palin has said that the function of a politician is not to serve one's self-interest, but rather to serve with a "servant's heart." In her career, Palin has done so with distinction and she has served the Alaskan people well and the Alaskan Jewish community.
Palin Understands How to Curb America's Dependence on Foreign Oil and Make America Energy Independent: One of Gov. Palin's greatest asset to the McCain-Palin ticket is her firm grasp of the pivotal security issue of making America energy independent. As governor, she is experienced, knowledgeable, has challenged the influence of big oil companies and fought for the development of new energy resources in her state. As an outdoorswoman and naturalist, she understands first-hand the impact of climate change.
· "To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries, we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas. And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we've got lots of both." -Gov. Sarah Palin, 9/3/08.
What Others are Saying About Sarah Palin · "Governor Sarah Palin, like John McCain, is a reformer who has taken on the special interests and reached across party lines." -- Sen. Joe Lieberman, GOP Convention, 9/2/08
· "As a fellow Republican Governor, I have had the chance to get to know Governor Sarah Palin. She is a terrific individual...and an outstanding governor. Sarah is a person with proven leadership skills, and strong moral character." -- Gov. Linda Lingle, GOP Convention, 9/3/08
· "I am excited by John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential running mate. Sarah brings a wealth of experience to the campaign and will pose a formidable challenge to the Democratic nominees. As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin is in a position to help articulate an all-encompassing, long-term energy strategy that will lower gas prices and create jobs, while protecting the environment. This will stand in stark contrast to the Obama/ Biden team which opposes all efforts to reduce gas prices."-- Rep. Eric Cantor, eericcantor.com, 8/29/08
· "[Gov. Palin] has established a great relationship with the Jewish community [in Alaska] over recent years, and has attended several of our Jewish cultural gala events." -- Rabbi Yosef Greenberg, Lubavitch.com, 8/31/08
· "The Jewish community should be very excited that Sarah was selected. She has been very conscious of the Jewish community here in Alaska and now with the opportunity of her new position, she'll have the opportunity to look at the Jewish community globally. Sarah's absolutely pro-Israel,"-- Constituent and Alaskan Republican Jewish Coalition Chapter Leader and Terry Gorlick, Jerusalem Post, 8/30/08
· "We had a good productive discussion on the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship, and we were pleased that Gov. Palin expressed her deep, personal, and lifelong commitment to the safety and well-being of Israel. Like Sen. McCain, the vice presidential nominee understands and believes in the special friendship between the two democracies and would work to expand and deepen the strategic partnership in a McCain/Palin Administration." -- AIPAC Spokesman Josh Block, MSNBC.com, 9/2/08

One of Gov. Palin's greatest assets to the McCain-Palin ticket is her firm grasp of the pivotal security issue of making America energy independent.I was very impressed during her convention speech when she rattled off all of the world's oil pipeline choke points, most of which either are in hostile hands or close to it. Someone may have written her speech, but she's definitely familiar with the oil and energy situation.

Hmmmm, let me think for whom I shall vote. It's cold up here in Alaska and the shul is frigid even in summer.
Let's see. On one hand, a clear Marxist Senator from gangland Chicago with a seemingly solidarity for Moslems, partnered with a 38-year veteran of the Senate.
On the other hand, we have a genuine armed forces commander of whom all the leftists loved just eight years ago, partnered with a governor from Alaska who has the solid support of Jews in Alaska.
Hmmmm. This is tough.
Very tough.
I think I'll vote for the Marxist and his pinhead.

I don't know about that. I first heard the expression "God's Frozen People" many years ago, from a Jewish couple who were good friends with my parents and lived in upstate New York. A play on "God's Chosen People."

I just saw an interview with Sarah that was taped last winter. In the window of her office in Juneau was a small Israeli flag.

I was very disappointed to hear that Judge Judy was on The View and expressed concern about Governor Palin on this issue of creationism. Judge Judy is concerned Governor Palin is trying to teach creationism in school. Judge Judy just lost a fan. I watch her show repeated at night. Last night I couldn't watch. Besides this being an unbalanced view of Governor Palin’s point, now Judge Judy sounds very ACLU.

Cant help lovin that gal! What is really eerie to me is that I find myself around 90% in agreement with her positions- never known a politician to get that close to 100% before.
My wife, formerly apolitical, and a Democrat when we married, is enthusiastically in her corner.
( And she was organist at the local Synagogue for almost 20 years, just FYI. )

Agree completely. She has energized this campaign because she’s genuine and walking the talk. No one else can say as much. It really feels like Reagan times, and those were happy, secure times for America (and up here in Canada if we can swing a majority vote for Harper — all to the good!)
