A poll commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee provides further evidence of neck-and-neck races in Colorado for president and U.S. Senate.
The poll, released Monday by the Tarrance Group, shows Republican John McCain leading Democrat Barack Obama 47 percent to 45 percent in the presidential race in Colorado.
In the U.S. Senate race, Democrat Mark Udall held a one-point lead over Republican Bob Schaffer, the poll found.
The poll, conducted among 495 "likely" registered voters in Colorado between Sept. 2 and Sept. 3, has a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent.
A poll released late last month by the Schaffer campaign showed similar numbers in the U.S. Senate race, though polls conducted earlier in August gave Udall a slightly larger lead.
The razor-thin margin in the presidential race is Colorado is consistent with other polls conducted over the past month (but before the Democratic and Republican national conventions). The Tarrance Group poll was conducted during the first and second days of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, albeit before McCain or GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin gave convention speeches that were televised nationally.
Yes, and before McCain spoke as well.
Lets wait to see what the post convention polls show over the next couple of weeks. I think we are going to like what we see.
Good news. I hope for a western state sweep (except the stinking coastal states which are probably beyond hope.)
FWIW... Mrs. Tick and I spent a few days in the People’s Republic of Boulder, Colorado recently. We didn’t realize when we planned the trip that we were actually going to be there DURING the convention in Denver, about 40 miles to the south of Boulder.
We were surprised at how few Obama yard signs and bumper stickers we saw in Boulder. We’ve seen more O-boy stickers in and around Austin, TX than in Boulder!
Not too many McCain stickers either, but there were a few.
Senator from Alaska is a crook, is in legal trouble, and yet won the nomination; he's going to easily be defeated by Dims.
If he had any honor left, he'd withdraw so the GOP could appoint someone who really has a chance - Todd Palin, for example!
LOL!
I am watching Fox News and he's opening offices in California in order to try to be competitive there.
I’m thinking the Liberal insanity, and the SERMON ON Mt. OLYMPUS wasn’t recieved very well by the locals....

i hope he carries CO with a wide enough margin to give Schafer some coat tails to ride up in
to keep this seat would help tremendously
Should Republican Bob Schaffer win he owes it to Palin ...not the spineless Republican Senatorial Committee
The good folks of Colorado need to be reminded over and over again that Obama is advocating a Windfall Profits Tax on oil.
Colorado is an oil producing state.
Obama’s Windfall Profits Tax would transfer the wealth from the oil producing states to his supporters in the oil consuming states in the Northeast.
Obama will lose Colorado big time once the residents realize how Obama plans to confiscate their wealth.
LOL. Why the hell not?
McCain is wasting his time actively campaigning in California (my home state).
If he focuses on Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Minnesota, and wins them, the election is his. He doesn't need California.
That said, if the trend is toward McCain-Palin throughout September and 1/2 of October, then California will follow suit. If McCain wins in November with a 5-7% margin, he just might get enough swing voters to take California. Wouldn't that be grand?
I believe most of McCain and Palin campaigning in California is for the purpose of getting contributions.
Conducted before the Convention? WORTHLESS.
Mac is wasting his time in California.
Nah. The country is too polarized for us to take California. The problem is that McCain campaign is going to spend resources in California when he is being outspent by Obama 5 to 1 and outmanned 20 to 1 in crucial states like Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico.
This poll was commissioned by the NRSC, so it’s an outlier poll. Still, the fact that it was before the GOP Convention is a good sign.
