Sarah Palin: John McCain's secret weapon to win over the Reagan Democrats
Telegraph, UK ^ | September 6, 2008 | Tim Shipman

John McCain has launched an audacious bid to rebuild the political coalition that Ronald Reagan rode to the White House, tapping the mania accompanying his running mate Sarah Palin to win over small town America, and with it the White House.

The Republican presidential candidate signalled his intentions by using his first weekend of campaigning since his party's convention to launch a political raid into the heart of Reagan-Democrat country, home of the fabled blue collar voters who Mr Reagan captured from the Democrats in the 1980s.

Mr McCain, and particularly Mrs Palin, met with a rapturous reception as they held a rally in Macomb County, Michigan, where pollsters first identified the breed of patriotic conservative, blue collar workers who the McCain camp now believes hold the key to victory in November.

On Friday night in Sterling Heights, Mr McCain's selection of Mrs Palin appeared to have utterly transformed his campaign and made easier the task of converting Reagan Democrats to McCain Democrats.

Where he once played to a few hundred people, he was greeted by an electrified crowd of 6,000 chanting "Sa-rah, Sa-rah!", "John Mc-Cain, John Mc-Cain!" and "U-S-A!"

This is the beginning of the end of Nobama.

The optimism and POSITIVE "change" of McCain/Palin will defeat Obama's negative rhetoric and advocating a "change" that will raise taxes, increase spending, increase government regulation, continue our dependence on foreigh oil -- in other words kill the US economy, AND weaken the US, surrendering us to terrorists and terrorist nations.

I am hoping and praying that this whole experience will show McCain that his advisers and the Republican “pros” in the RNC were WRONG.

We don’t want another RINO Country Clubber, which is the way he began his campaign. We don’t want someone reaching out to the middle, while the Democrats kicks him in the teeth. We want someone who will DO THE JOB and stop worrying about placating the leftist idiots in the media and the “undecided” voters.

Even before announcing his VP choice, McCain seemed to be moving right and making sense. Let’s hope he sees not only how RIGHT that is but how POLITICALLY SUCCESSFUL that is. People will support and follow real leaders once they are convinced that is what they are.

While Biden is a Delaware resident, and a current US Senator from that state, he was born in Scranton, PA (fwiw)...

Just read on Drudge, Obama plans to send out female serogates to talk down Palin. I wonder if he will use Geraldine F. Who they bashed and called racist. What about Hillary, who his buddy included in his song and called her a white b****.

We need to see some strong Republican ladies come and stand by Sarahs side....Come on Condi Rice, Elizabeth Dole, Laura Ingrahm,Kay Bailey-Hutchinson,Gov. Of Hawaii,Education Secretary, I want to see them all. Do any of them have children.....How did they do it!!!! My gosh, working mom and meaningful job.....SHOCK!!!!

Maybe the Zero can parachute in some community organizers for a counter attack.

Heh heh.

You’re either crazy or stupid if you think that you’re going to get change in DC by voting for two Lawyers over a war Hero and Mother of 5.

nah, that's accurate - he's from Scranton.

I've noticed that as well. I wonder what they're thinking about their American colleagues attempts to destroy Palin.

So their strategy to attack a woman who is a Washington outsider is with female Washington insiders? The Obama camapign is about as predictable as the Washington Redskins offense.

It’s a two-fer for Biden, he was born in Pennsylvania but well, you know about Delaware already. Fewer folks in Delaware than Alaska, I think. Pretty close either way.

Ferraro came out now and said she will be voting for Obama. The response of the PUMAs? Disappointment. They’re sticking with McCain.

You get the feeling that the Obama campaign and the media are like an army that has been attacked from a direction they never anticipated and they’re desperately trying to reform their own lines.

A job that Obama can't handle on his own.

To think that he has come so far as to be approaching the position as the most powerful person in the world. (gasp)

Yes, Not just Reagan Democrats.

Sarah Palin walked into a very dark political scene and literally turned the lights on!

She immediately helps by standing next to John McCain and allowing us as citizens to truly see him for the first time for the gutsy guy he has always been.

She calls herself a Hockey Mom and validates tens of millions of hard working American woman doing the best they can.

She stands up for the truth, and the personal attacks released on her have empowered her to shout volumes of truth about the true situation on both sides.

I first wanted to call them Palin Democrats, but it is much more than that.

She is causing wholesale conversions from previously held positions.

The PUMAs love her because a good man noticed her accomplishments and brought her to the forefront. They will support her to victory.

Women love her because they finally have found someone who could maintain strong traditional values without any compromise and make progress working in policics.

Men love her for .......Well, I will just say I have longed for more strong women that could say to our daughters and grand-daughters - You don't have to throw your values in the trashcan. Stick up for your marriage, your children, your career. And while you are at it, enjoy being a beautiful woman. Dress with style. Be athletic and stay in shape.

I think Sarah Palin has the ability to be a History Maker in this generation. She has already effected so many people. Just look at the turnouts at the campaign stops. People know they are witnessing history and they want to be a part of it.
