Democrats.com was born at the August 2000 Democratic convention in Los Angeles where Al Gore was nominated for President. That November, Karl Rove and Florida's Secretary of State Katherine Harris stole the election.
While the theft was in progress, we organized "Count Every Vote" protests all across the country, helped the Congressional Black Caucus formally object to the counting of Florida's stolen electors (a scene made famous in "Fahrenheit 9/11"), and protested George Bush's inauguration in Washington DC.
Please help our friends at the Secretary of State Project stop Republicans from stealing the 2008 election.

Corrupt voting officials there suppressed thousands of Democratic votes, perhaps even enough to swing Ohio, and thus presidency. Jennifer Brunner, a Secretary of State we helped elect in 2006, fired those officials. This is exactly what a reform-minded Secretary of State must do in all counties or town where our votes are at risk. We cannot allow another "mini-Katherine Harris"to steal the 2008 election. Tell your Secretary of State: Crack down on partisan operatives who could steal the 2008 election. Personally, I've seen the terrible damage that corrupt elections officials can do. That's why I helped found the Secretary of State Project in 2006. We work to elect good Secretaries of State, and then to hold them accountable. We won 5 of our 7 races in 2006, helping elect clean, progressive Secretaries of State in the key battlegrounds of Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico and Nevada. But our work isn't done. We hope you'll join us now in sending a message to your Secretary of State to demand clean elections, where every ballot is counted and partisan operatives aren't allowed to steal a single vote. It’s true, in 2004 I saw guys in cowboy hats putting up signs with arrows saying “This Way to Your Polling (Voting) Place.” But the thing was, the arrow pointed AWAY from the polling place. The people who walked in the wrong direction eventually made it to a waffle house, where a sign over the restroom read, “Vote here.” Inside was a sign that said, “Thank You for Voting, Now Go Home.”

You know I was just over there and reading through the thread about the Daily Gallup poll... Anyway, why do these PUMAs still believe in these so-called “national polls” as actually reflecting TRUTH? We’ve got to work on that! LOL
I think this organization is taking the aphorism about history repeating itself too seriously. What are the odds that another Katherine Harris will “choose” a president.

I’m “Van Palin” over there, I’ve tried to clue them in on the “polls” registered vs. likely, etc., they’re catching on.
Very good — I thought that was you when I went to your link! :-) I’m glad there are some over there who can help them see the light. Hopefully by 2012 they will understand that this was not an isolated case - the hypocrisy of the left that is.

I am a registered Democrat. Never been anything else. Have been since c 1984. Al Gore’s behavior in 2000 turned me finally against the Dems. He did a great damage to this country, our traditions and our politics, by contesting the election. The day after the election, I was furious at him, and the other Dems for dragging this country down. While I was mad at them, I honestly looked at the facts, and watched everything I could, and read everything, about the vote counting and the legal battles. EVERYTHING they said then was either a lie, or at best misleading. The leading news organizations of the country went to FL after the election and discovered that Bush won after all. I have not regretted my decision to vote Republican after that (except for Hillary in the Dem primary :) IMO, what Gore did was worse than Watergate, the Borking of SCOTUS or anything else scandalous in the last 40 years. They have perpetuated a lie and a myth that have weakened our Republic immeasurably.
