Never “revere” anyone you don’t personally know.

So you really think Jesse Jackson wanted the public (including the Secret Service) to hear him threatening to sever a body part from a presidential candidate?

His dislike for The One and what he stands for (usurping Jackson's position as an authority figure in the black community) is very apparent. Add the fact that if Obama were elected, that would reduce the ability of Jackson, et al. to continue to claim that blacks are disadvantaged at every turn, and I think that Jackson may have been frank because he has not had to learn to be cautious around the MSM, since he is on the same side with them.

However, supposed "Republicans" do not share the same luxury of being trusting of any media. Both Noonan and Murphy have been around the block and so I would not be surprised to find they did this on purpose. But, if not, they both definitely should have known better.

Regardless, it just illustrates that if you drink the Washington kool-aid long enough, it poisons your outlook. They obviously do not realize that Palin is touching a chord with Middle America.

I hate to hear this, because she comes across as one of us, but I think she was miffed by Bush when not asked to be a speech writer.

If this is true, then it bothers me tremendously.

Is it true?

"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullSTALIN about narratives,"

I thought the MSM’s DNC-faxed talking point LAST week was that Obama was a great candidate because his life made a “good story”.

How could having a good 'story' make Obama a good president? (The Telegraph August 27,2008 Simon Heffer)

Peggy and Murphy have become DC elites and have been drinking the beltway water. Fact is 80% of Americans are disgusted and think the country is headed in the wrong direction and that includes many conservatives. McCain and Palin will prevail if Obama is exposed for what he is.

The Dems have launched an all-out attack on this woman. They are filling the airwaves and the newspapers about all kinds of stories about her, twisted, baseless and hostile.
And they are repeating any critical comments made by conservatives or Republicans or even Dems about her.

The whole goal is to destroy her credibility as a politician.

WHY? She is only a VICE-PRESIDENTIAL candidate.

My guess is tow reasons:

1) The more hostiles attention they focus on her, the less people will look at Obama’s miserable credentials.

2) They REALLY fear her. They fear her political views and they fear her ability to perform as an effective candidate.

What Sarah Palin has been subjected to exceeds what Bork, Gingrich, Bush II, and Quayle were subjected to. And it stinks.

My best are on Sarah Palin. I hoep she blasts the Dems tonight and shames those “Republicans” and “conservatives” who have been attacking her so baselessly and unmercifully.

They ONLY eat their own.

Mike Murphy though is worse. He is a McCain operative. Well former McCain operative. I think he helped run that “wildly successful” McCain 2000 primary against W.

This is embarrassing. They both need to head home and reflect.

Choosing Mitt or Pawlenty would have generated zero buzz.

I'm a minority here, but I think zero buzz would have been the smarter move. The election should be a referendum on Barack Obama. That's the only way we can win this. If it becomes a referendum on John McCain or George Bush or anything else (aside from maybe Osama bin Laden), we lose.

That's what the poll numbers suggest. There's a reason we lost Congress in '06 -- GOP branding is in the toilet. The question the public needs to ask is -- what's the alternative? This year, the alternative is an untested Chicago radical -- far too extreme for the country.

Peggy Noonan is part of the Northeast elite. I’m sure she attends the cocktail parties. She wants to be invited back.

You are so right. This woman's life is like a story by Dorthy Parker.

In itself, the comments are just her opinion. However, because she also wrote an article on WSJ praising Gov. Palin on the same day, it actually reflects really badly on Ms. Noonan. She looks like two-face hypocrite who says something on her article without believing any of it. I wonder if her feeling toward Pope John Paul II, whom he wrote a biography, is also real. After all, she also praises him in the book.

Have you considered that she might be right?

Look at the simple electoral math. McCain *cannot* win by just appealing to conservatives. Not in this electoral climate, anyway.

McCain is losing independents right now, and even if he pulls close to even among independents he’ll need some Dems.

There’s no evidence yet that Palin is helping with that. Pawlenty would have helped.

is there something different about what respondents tell pollsters during telephone calls?

One must remember most of these "respondents" are at home in the daytime, using a landline rather than a cellular phone, and have the free time to answer a pollster's questions.

Hardly a good sample of your average American in 2008.

Actually, I have my suspicions about polls in USA 2008. I think they've finally tossed up their hands and are just making them up. It's cheaper and more profitable that way. And who's to blow the whistle on 'em?

I wish she were as willing to critique Obama's inexperience.

I wish she'd just be honest and tell us exactly what she thinks, when she KNOW the mike is on.
