Gore’s 2000 running mate says Obama would be a fine leader — later

Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee in 2000, urged Democrats to cross party lines Tuesday night and cast their votes for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, telling they they could “always count on him to be straight with you about where he stands and to stand for what he thinks is right regardless of politics.”

Lieberman, who is now officially an independent but continues to caucus with the Democrats, was addressing delegates at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., but he was really speaking to millions of Democrats watching at home on television.

“What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this?” Lieberman asked...

The Demagogues must be hating him more than ever. How DARE he put his country above party? THEY sure don’t.

Must be a real psycho-fest over at the DUmpster and the KosFreaks tonight..... I’m almost tempted to take a peek but I don’t know if I have enough disinfectant around the house.

If you were listenening to the speeches and reading the teleprompter, you would know that Lieberman was not directly reading the speech. He was using the teleprompter as an outline, but the words were not the same much of the time. He was speaking from the heart.

Way to go Joe.

Obama would send America’s enemies the wrong message.

That we are ripe for picking.

I'd like to say something deep and thought provoking, but I can't. When he walked out on the stage all I could think was, "My gosh, how did I never notice that Lieberman looks like Jiminy Cricket?"

Good on him for standing up for McCain. Good for him for standing up for his country. Poor guy better have a bodyguard for the Senate cloakroom.

I just picked up this little gem at the HILLARY CLINTON FORUM.

http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/

I can no more support Barack Obama for president than I could support Rev. Wright for president.

I can no more support Barack Obama for president than I could support William Ayers for president.

I can no more support Barack Obama for president than I could support Fr. Pfleger for president.

I can no more support Barack Obama for president than I could support Antoin Rezko for president.

“John McCain’s whole life testifies to a great truth: Being a Democrat or a Republican is important. But it is not more important than being an American,” he said.

So, who's he sayin' isn't an American hmmm?

If a Republican VP candidate from 8 years previous gave a speech like this at the Dem Convention, the MSM would call it “historic”. Watch them try to downplay this. Good for Joe. He even took a few direct slaps at BO. He better wear a fireproof suit when he starts his car, though.

Lieberman is a friend of McCain's, and he praised him highly.

It was noteworthy that Lieberman had good words to say about Sarah Palin, too.

what’s remarkable is that he almost won by a few votes and instead of feeling bitter about republicans, he endorses McCain/Palin

I have always like Joe Lieberman. It was a shame that he had to run with the loser. I hold out some hope that he will just make the switch for real and become a Republican just to drive the moonbats crazy.

The other day on TV, Lieberman said that “Sarah Palin is like a breath of fresh Alaskan air.” He also said that Gov. Palin is just what Washington needs to shake up the status quo (or words to that effect).

I guess Joe didn’t appreciate being accosted on the Senate floor a few months ago. A Chicago thug cornered Joe and asked him for some change.

Absolutely! This certainly seemed history to me and yet the coverage I listened to didn't even MENTION Joe had been Gore's 2000 running mate. Another MSM piece I read said Harry Reid and others were already planning retaliations (their term) against Joe because of this speech. That's sick and wrong. It's NOT "Change" but more of the same poisonous politics Democrats have engaged in since at least the time Joe Biden joined the Senate over 30 years ago.

I was listening on radio. It was clear he was drifting from a pure read of some script and I appreciated it. If McCain puts an Democrat Independent in his cabinet, he could do far worse than Joe Lieberman.

I laughed at one Democrat saying you just don't switch sides like that as if they tried to tell Jumpin' Jim Jeffords out of leaving the GOP and turning over control of the Senate to the Democrats.

EXACTLY!

What an enormously cute grin and cartoon face.
He's paying a huge political price for this.
