Dobson on Bristol Palin's Pregnancy (Good)
ABC ^ | September 01, 2008 | Dr. James C. Dobson

Posted on 09/01/2008 10:57:49 PM PDT by SolidWood

Dr. James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family issued the following statement:

"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.

"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.

"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."

Good note from Dobson there...

Children are not perfect... and many parents wrestle daily with the unfortunate surprises from their children. So many parents feel helpless at times when it comes to the choices their growing children make...

What Sarah and the McCain campaign received today was something for the “i-hate-republicans” crowd to talk about but more-so they received a lot of silent sympathy and compassion. We also were able to relate to her family even more than at first when we met them on Friday.

“I make decisions as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can. Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint.” -John McCain

Absolutely! We need to stick by Palin - McCain’s choice. McCain’s a maverick who knows what he is doing. Palin may be a gov. of a state with only 700,000 people for 18 months - who cares! She is gold! Stick with it till the bitter end. McCain’s judgment is unimpeachable.

There is only one stand to take on this: it's a no-brainer. But, ya, thanks just the same.

“Sins of the flesh” exposed in other people’s lives give some people the urge to put the knock on other people. They should be careful. A great sermon posited a theory - unproven but very plausible - about a famous Bible story. Some Pharisees brought a woman to our Lord and accused her of adultery. “She was taken in the act!” Our Lord began writing on the ground with a stick, and one by one the Pharisees left. What did our Lord write? It could have been the names of women - one name for each Pharisee.

I’m a little late with this (I work midnight turn). IMO, the Democrats & the MSM (but I repeat myself) will overplay this hand (Bristol Palin’s pregnancy). Its almost like the Democrats WANT to lose this election. Unless Obama Muad’Dib gets a handle on the unhinged left in his corner, he will lose this election by a large margin. Most Americans are not thrilled at attacks on teenage girls. I’m not a huge Dobson fan, but he’s not wrong here.

I see you don’t post often. That’s a good thing, a very good thing. Sarah Palin has been running the largest state in america. You’ve been running your piehole.

"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing.

Totally consistent with what I've heard over listening to
"Focus On The Family" for at least a decade (with a occassional
hiatus here and there).

I guess the Democratic Party's folks haven't fully grasped that
Christians are more about honorably dealing with "unintended
consequences" and the less-than-admirable acts Christians commit
while in the midst of a pagan/atheistic/hedonistic bunch like
Today's Democratic Party.

From what I've seen of The Democratic Party since the era of Reagan...
their main theme is pleasure/utopianism...even if the innocent
yet-to-be-born have to pay the price for their indulgence.

I don’t see it this way, sorry. I’ve been wrestling this one since I heard about it, and where I come down is - this isn’t the right example for teenage girls - to hear something like this, and for it to be celebrated the way it is. Just a few months ago, some 7-8 girls at a high school all agreed to get pregnant at the same time. A baby needs a family- a stable family. I’m glad that life was chosen in the case of Palin’s daughter, but its not right. Not at that age.

Call me old fashioned but thats why women should stay home and not the father- I doubt Sarah would have let this happen if she were on it.

An additional thought...
If I was a conservative celeb appearing on CNN or MSNBC and they
started being harpys about the NOT-TERMINATED pregnancy of
Palin's daughter, I'd say to the interviewer...

"You are sounding really judgemental these days!
Have you converted to fundamentalistic Christianity?"

That would be a question (if pressed forward with follow-up
interrogatories) that would probably leave the MSM interviewers
frothing at the mouth.
Before they collapse in some sort of apoplexy (stroke).

Sarah Palin’s daughter should be congratulated for her courage. The easiest thing in the world would’ve been to get a quiet abortion. She could’ve avoided this media firestorm. Instead, she’s subjecting herself to all sorts of childish insults by left-wingers and the media. She’s taking some heat right now, all in order to save that baby’s life.

As for the media... well, they’ve already given more coverage to the Palin pregnancy than they gave to Juanita Broaddrick’s credible allegation that Bill Clinton raped her. The media is going after a 17-year-old daughter of a V.P. candidate more than they went after a consistently corrupt POTUS who got himself impeached while bin Laden planned the 9/11 attacks.

If the left-wing nuts and media (one in the same) reach too far on this one, the McCain-Palin campaign will benefit. I’m sure the Hillary-loving women of Saturday Night Live are eagerly awaiting their season debut so they can falsely portray Sarah Palin as a pure quota pick by McCain.

I hope this is a lesson to everyone. Now you see what low life scumbags we are up against . The Republicans better grow some balls fast and play hard ball with these Dems or we’re going to loose. We’ve let way too much slide by us already starting with Sandy Burger .

Excellent points here. These are real people facing real problems. The Palin's are Pro Life.

The jackals on the left are hoping the evangelical crowd will be duped into not supporting McCain/Palin- so that pro partial birth abortion Obama can win the upcoming election.

They (left) must be shocked to discover that most Christian's are not falling for it. The (lefties) never get the part where Jesus came to save the sinners. We are all sinners. They always miss that part.

IMO- Sarah, is an "outside Washington", "down to earth folks"- person. We haven't had this type running for office, in a long time. (She has a great record too.) It's refreshing. What family doesn't have problems to deal with? What family is perfect? Any family can relate to what they are going through on some level.

I agree with Dobson- the voting public will not be pleased with the attacks on Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter, anymore than they liked the attacks on Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter- which didn't go over at all.

It will be interesting to see how Sarah handles this first challenge. It's a teachable moment, I think.

Anyway, Prayers being said, this is only the beginning of the slime campaign.

Great article- BUMP

Its not Palin as a conservative who is being hypocritical. Conservatives do not condemn people for having teenage daughters who have the courage to keep an unwanted pregnancy and get married to the father.

It is the "progressive" critics who are being hypocrites. How the heck can they routinely excuse "hooking up" between teenagers, and a "woman's right to choose", and yet condemn Palin or her daughter for anything?

This misguided mud slinging will bite them in the butt.

The liberal “take” on this pregnancy shows their ignorance about Christianity...real Christianity, not the false gospels of universalism and Obama’s racist church doctrines.

“uncontroversial”

The word “controversial” just means that the God-hating death eaters hate a person or an idea.

“shows their ignorance about Christianity”

I wish it were just ignorance. However, it is a shared body of knowledge...all of it incorrect, malevolent, and inspired by the father of lies.

And they believe it fervently, with the “blind faith” that they so often falsely attribute to Christians.

There must be many Christian families that are dealing with similar situations with their own children having children.

No one is perfect. We just have to deal with our imperfections as gracefully as possible.

That is positively ridiculous...no mother can be with her child 24/7....kids have a mind of their own, and in a moment of passion make mistakes, which is what happened here.

Hard to believe isn't it? Especially since he is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. He opposes all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc.

Hmmm... where have I read this before?

She is planning on marrying the father, and I think that is the way it should be. Who is to say that they cannot have a stable family. Past generations have been in the same situation, getting married because of a pregnancy and the marriages have remained in tact. A friend of mine was married the day after HS graduation, guess what? Three kids and 27 yrs. later they are still married. What they need is support, they are doing the right thing, the mature thing. I really hope it works out for them.
