Thanks. I’ll donate, but I prefer the Salvation Army (less overhead, more money to the needy), and will go there.

I’ll flush my money down the commode before I give a penny to those crooks at the Red Cross.

Did the Red Cross finally get some accounting procedures in place so that 1) they rake in money but use it for something else and ‘sit’ on it; and 2) update accountability so that fraud is not happening with the donated money?

I'm really having trouble with this one. The Katrina-Rita mess saw $126
billion in federal funds plus who knows how much in private donations and New Orleans still hasn't finished their work. They also reelected Nagin even thought his contractor friends can't explain where the 2004 funds of $57 million for levy repair went. And let's not forget the $90,000+ in cold cash in William Jefferson's freezer. Then there's the question of whether my tax dollars should be used to rebuild private homes that were 8' below sea level but the owners chose not to insure. They gambled...they lost...why is that my problem? Lastly, how many of the people in NO donated to those who were flooded out this summer in the Midwest?
Until I see the people of NO clean up their own house (e.g., throwing Nagin and his administration out of office along with all the others who have made two years of excuses) I am very reluctant to give any organization my money and even more upset if federal tax dollars flow into that bottomless pit.

No thank you. After the reaction from the Katrina aftermath, I’m not giving a dime. Too many people decided to take and take and then complain that they still wanted more. And the FEMA money was tracked to tattoo parlors and Vegas casinos. I won’t be a party to that kind of misuse of funds. Let “chocolate city” Nagin open up his wallet instead.

May I recommend the Salvation Army versus the corrupt Red Cross.
