I thought it provided a very convenient juxtaposition of a few essential elements.
Among other things, it body-slams the "age issue" that the Left keeps slinging at President McCain (pardon my enthusiastic assumptions).
In a worst-case scenario where he would be unable to continue serving, VP Palin could take over, bringing far more experience (and honor, integrity, intelligence, patriotism, etc. etc. etc. ) to the job than the Left's primary OR VP candidate.
