Bristol Palin's Baby Shower Planning (Vanity)
vanity | 9/1/08 | Pops88

Posted on 09/01/2008 10:45:40 AM PDT by pops88

I think we need to organize a Free Republic baby shower for Bristol Palin. I can barely organize a child's birthday party, so I'm hoping other Freepers will step up to the plate. I think to start, we need- date, time, place, and theme. I know there are Freepers here that can organize this so we can show our support.

Is she married yet? I think a wedding/baby shower would be even better.

Sorry, but I think we should show our support by leaving Sarah’s family alone and supporting Sarah all the stronger. What 17 year old girl wants a bunch of strangers fawning over her. Just let her live a normal life. That will be our best gift to her.

This might be a little complicated. The Secret Service would have to check around it and all. But that might be something we could coordinate with Palin's assistant.

I like the idea.

No, please don’t do this. It’s a sad event, the Palins are dealing with it well, leave them alone. Don’t try to act as if a 17-year-old getting pregnant is a good thing. Don’t mainstream it. Send messages of support privately, whatever, but don’t do the ritual, public things that try to say that this is anything but a tragedy with which the Palins are coping responsibly.

You lay us open to charges of hypocrisy, since we do believe that getting pregnant out of wedlock is not good, is wrong, if then, when it’s our “guy” who does it we try to act as if its perfectly normal.

She’s not a girl anymore, I fear. And what young woman doesn’t like presents?

I think it would be better if we graciously allowed the young woman to quietly atone for her misjudgement by doing the right thing, out of the public eye.

I was on a more liberal site earlier, and the comments there are about the hypocrisy of Sarah preaching family values and having a 17 year old pregnant.

And there are other comments along the lines of , see what happens when you don’t teach your children safe sex. They said that Sarah should have taught her daughter safe sex, then she wouldn’t be pregnant.

And they said that when you teach only creationism and only abstinence only type sex education, this is what you get.

And an especially mean-spirited one said her daughter has become a slut. How the liberals can call anyone a slut, I don’t understand. Since liberals are all in favor of sex outside marriage, any time, with any one, any number of partners, any gender of partners, the notion that someone could be a slut should be outside their frame of reference.

A baby shower or a $ shower to someone like National Right to Life in honor of Sarah’s and Bristol’s decisions....?

Well. It's not like we haven't seen a shotgun wedding among conservatives before. She's getting married.

With respect:

You're not a member of the family and you're not a friend of the family. I can only imagine how Bristol is feeling today having her name and her situation blasted across the news. It's a terrible burden for a young woman.

What I suspect she needs to get away from this and spend time with family and friends. She doesn't need to well-meaning, but ultimately bumbling interference from strangers.

I suggest you take whatever money and energy you would have devoted to this baby shower and instead devote it to her mother's campaign.

What 17 year old girl wants a bunch of strangers fawning over her.

The 17 year old who has been thrown in the public eye of the entire world and who would probably be encouraged to know that there are people who, rather than condemn her, support her.

Liberals hate women in general and pregnant women in particular.

What an insulting and juvenile idea! The Palin family deserves our respect and their privacy. If you really want to help, send money to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Getting pregnant so young out of wedlock is not good, but, she’s doing the right thing by choosing life for her baby.

Character, courage, and all of that are tested when you are confronted with a difficult situation such as Palin’s daughter is dealing with. She has chosen life and she and her bf are getting married. They are acting very mature and making decisions about how to go forward in their lives. They are showing courage and character with it all, though it’s a difficult situation.
