UTICA, New York - Republican John McCain's surprise announcement Friday of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate - some 16 hours after Democrat Barack Obama's historic speech accepting his party’s presidential nomination - has possibly stunted any Obama convention bump, the latest Zogby Interactive flash poll of the race shows.

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.

In other words, the race is a dead heat.

Let the panic for the Zombies begin!

I have been amazed on how well McCain’s campaign has been run. It’s been spunky and proactive.

I wonder how many polls there will be between now and November 4? I’m getting poll fatigue.

In other words, if a Zogby poll shows McCain/Palin up by 2, they are really up by 6.

I know that polls are only snapshots for the moment, but I sure do hope it’s accurate.

The person behind the scenes coming up with the ads has been doing a good job. Let's hope they keep it up.

Are liberal operatives launching some sort of DOS attack on Zogby?

I can’t get through.

(FR’s been a bit slow recently also)

Can’t wait for the debates. I wonder if Biden’s plugs will stay intact when Mrs. Palin hands him his head.

I agree. It's like McCain is (or has hired) a Judo Master - use your opponent's strength against him and adapt to changing conditions.

I think there's some advantage to the fact that McCain has been in public service longer than Barry has been alive. He seems to have good instincts for what works and what doesn't work. Barry, on the other hand, seems to have the biggest tin ear in politics since John Kerry.

There is another thread around (I’m too lazy to look, since I’m currently on dialup) which is an excellent analysis of how McCain is inside Obama’s OODA loop. This is military talk meaning that McCain is constantly keeping the Obama camp off balance by changing up the game at a pace faster than the Obama team can make good responsive decisions.

This is a Zogby interactive poll. I don’t know the methodology so some of you can help me, but I think these are email polls you can sign up for. I don’t think these are as accurate as his regular polling. I could be mistaken.

I did read the Alter article. It is somewhat amazing to see the vitriol the liberals have. None of these guys could convince themselves to write one or two good things about Palin in the first column. You read these things and you wonder how people can go through life being so bitter. I like having a non Harvard/Yalie on the ticket.

How come all I keep hearing about, even on Fox News, is this 8-point bounce Obama supposedly got from the convention? I listen to a wide variety of news sources, and that's the only poll I hear quoted.

Another question. Why are so many Republican pundits sure Obama is going to win? It seems obvious to me that McCain will win, and it's even more obvious now that he's chosen Palin as his running mate.

Even Laura Ingraham said yesterday on Fox that she was sure Obama would win -- that is, until he chose Palin. Now she thinks he has a chance. What's wrong with this conservatives? Are they so wrapped up in Beltway-think that they can't sense what's going on in the country?
