Britain is in the grip of its worst economic crisis for 60 years, Alistair Darling has admitted.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer warns that the slump is going to be "more profound and long-lasting than people thought".

In an astonishingly frank interview, Mr Darling admits that voters are "p***** off" with Labour and says the party must recover the "zeal" which won it three successive general elections.

I saw somewhere where the UK is one of the few countries in the EU that is “growing”. Of course, this is due to immigration and the (inexplicable) British zeal to import more Muslims and descend in dhimmihood. Somewhere, Churchill must be spinning in his grave.

Britain’s share of North Sea oil is running out. Sadly, the (welfare state) party will soon be over.

This massive recession is hitting all of Europe. And the PIGS of Southern Europe (Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain) are going to be hit hardest. They will spike the deficit the most and strain the EURO. Northern Europe might refuse to bail them out this time. It is something like this that could actually destroy the EURO as a common currency. That has actually been foreseen by EU economists for a long, long time.

The Chancellor also said he heeded a warning from a waiter when out for dinner with friends recently not to have a second bottle of wine, seemingly because it would look like he was pushing the boat out while others were being forced to live more frugally.

Pushing the boat out? I had never heard that used to mean living rich. Love those differences in words and phrases that make British English different from American-English.

If the Euro suddenly vanishes and the almighty dollar regains some credibilty I might visit France.

Otherwise I will be one of many that will never see France.

I refuse to play the exchange rate when it is as if the dollar is trash.
