GOP Lawmakers Put "No New Taxes Pledge" In Writing (CAGOP To Red Arnold: "Up Yours" Alert)

Don't read their lips when California's Republican lawmakers say 'no new taxes' – they've put it in writing, signed their names, essentially inviting their own party to oust them if they renege.

Every GOP lawmaker except Fair Oaks Assemblyman Roger Niello has signed the "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" this year, casting a shadow on budget talks by making any vote to raise taxes a potential career killer.

"If you break the pledge, the people who voted for you will say, 'Excuse me, not only did you raise my taxes but you lied to me,' " said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, in Washington, D.C., which conducts the pledge drive nationwide.

The tax pledge, whose signers are publicized on the group's Web site, is a written promise to voters that "I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes."

They put it in writing and essentially told Red Arnold: "Up Yours!" There will be no new taxes since the CAGOP faces voters retribution if they break their written no new taxes pledge.

We need more lawmakers to take a stand like that.

Good for them, that is the kind of behavior among Republicans this state has needed for long long time.

Bush and McCain said same thing then both said raising SS payroll cap is ‘on the table’ for SS reform. Yet SS is used to fund everything under the sun since early 1980s Republican betrayal. Reagon got 1 day of praise for ‘fixing’ the problem then. Clinton then increased income tax on SS benefits, what a scam. Democrats know know to get middle class hooked on welfare and it corrupts their soul.

I thought that Arnold, a guy who gave out copies of Milton Friedman's “Free to Choose” to liberal friends in the 80’s, would at least have economic common sense. I stand bitterly disappointed with him.

Arnold is a prime example of what happens when you vote for an inexperienced politician who ran on the "Change" platform.

The only thing that changed was him.

It's not like the few Republicans in California can actually stop the Democrat majority.

What's up with Niello? Another trojan horse or just a wimp?

Just a guy who hates pledges. This came up like 2 years ago.

"What's up with Niello?"

Good question.

Perhaps it would not be premature to ready the tar & feathers...

Send ‘em a thank you letter, with or without a $$$check.

Call their office and thank them.

Call the tax-raising liberals and tell them what ya think.

Start a website.

So many ways, lol.
