Archbishop scolds pro-choice Biden (says Mr. Biden should avoid taking Communion)

DENVER | Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. arrived at the Democratic National Convention on Monday amid rumblings over whether his pro-choice Catholicism would help or hurt the Democratic ticket.

An Irish-Catholic from a working-class upbringing, Mr. Biden won the nod as presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama's running mate in part because of his appeal to blue-collar Catholics, the same voters who swung during the primary for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Although he represents Delaware in the Senate, Mr. Biden grew up in Pennsylvania, a must-win state for Democrats in November.

But the party's hopes of winning the critical Catholic vote took a hit Sunday when Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver said Mr. Biden should avoid taking Communion as a result of his pro-choice stand on abortion.

Archbishop Chaput, who was scheduled to lead a pro-life candlelight vigil Monday night here in front of Planned Parenthood, called Mr. Biden's support for abortion rights "seriously wrong," said archdiocese spokeswoman Jeanette De Melo.

"I certainly presume his good will and integrity," said the archbishop, "and I presume that his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for Communion if he supports a false 'right' to abortion."

The archbishop, who was not invited to speak at any convention events in what appeared to be a deliberate snub, told the Associated Press that he would like to speak privately with Mr. Biden.

Did Biden threaten to shove his Rosary Beads down the Archbishop’s throat?

whether his pro-choice Catholicism would help or hurt the Democratic ticket.

That's sort of like saying you're a Satan worshiping Catholic.

Mr. Biden needs to go to confession and remove this mortal sin from his soul.

Then he can go to communion with a clear conscience.

Thank you Nancy Pelosi for the big lie on MTP.

No doubt she’ll never forgive Brokaw much as hitlery will ever forgive Russert’s question about drivers licenses for illegals.

I'll be impressed when these guys are turned away at the altar.

Until then, it's just words.

It could very well be worse than that. I suspect that if the Democrats win in November you will see some rumblings about their messing in politics being incompatible with the tax exempt status of the church.

That's right. You can't be a Catholic and also pro-choice. If you are, you're just a "pretend Catholic."

A Catholic who believes in abortion is like a “moderate” Muslim.

Biden not only has to go to Confession, but he must as part of his Confession, decide to never do the act again.

Only if he agrees to amend his life, go forth and sin no more.

He also needs to publicly recant his views that baby butchery is perfectly compatible with Church teaching. When a public Catholic vociferously proclaims crappola that would lead folks into separating themselves from Church teaching, there’s more to clean up than just his slate of sins.

I thought of that but the Church has every right to defend it's doctrine. If I were in his church I would challenge him personally.

It does. But penalizing Biden for supporting what happens to be a legal procedure in the U.S. could be taken for messing in politics, and probably will be taken that way by the Democrats if they get the White House in November.

Let them try.Do you know how many would walk away from them and to top it off they would lose.I spoke with a priest yesterday he said what she said is diabolical.Humm, wonder what the word diabolical means. "di·a·bol·i·cal (dī'ə-bŏl'ĭ-kəl) pronunciation also di·a·bol·ic (-ĭk) adj. 1. Of, concerning, or characteristic of the devil; satanic."
