Pelosi Tells Disappointed Clinton Supporters to Avoid 'Victim Politics'
ABC News ^ | 08/25/08 | TERRY MORAN and CHRISTINA CARON

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will kick off the Democratic National Convention by making one thing clear: The Democratic Party is united behind Sen. Barack Obama...

When asked whether she expected a large demonstration by Sen. Hillary Clinton's delegates Tuesday, Pelosi said, "I'm all for it."

"This is not unusual in a campaign," she said. "It's healthy. It's important that people who have worked really hard during a campaign are able to express themselves at the convention on behalf of the candidate they worked for. They have to respect the results....

Pelosi had tough words today for reporters who referred to previous conflicts between Obama and Clinton....

Pelosi, who is building her own legacy as the first female House speaker, waved aside the notion that some women consider Obama's win as yet another example of a younger, less qualified man passing over a more qualified woman...

Pelosi cautioned against victimizing Clinton, who fought a tough battle, indicating that the message women can glean from Clinton's loss is the importance of moving forward, and refusing to wallow in defeat.

"I think that women, we have to get away from the politics of victim. This is about you go out there and you fight," she said. "I think that what Hillary Clinton did was tremendous for the country. She has kicked open many doors, which now we have to bring many more women through, millions more women through. My being speaker of the House was breaking the marble ceiling in Congress, which is hard. Sen. Clinton [had] a bigger challenge to run for president of the United States. What we have to do now is say, we have to translate that not just for individuals, but for all women."...

Don't play the victim card like we as Democrats (and you particularly, Hillary) always do when we lose. So you Clinton supporters grow up while we Obama supporters use the victim card to win the election.

Unbelievable. Ms. Pelosi is utterly detached from reality. She could look directly into the sun and proclaim with confidence that it surely is midnight and would vigorously denounce anyone who points out that it is actually day.

Asking Democrats to avoid victim politics is like asking a fish not to swim.

isn't tonight victim night at the DNC

Other speakers were chosen because of their circumstances, and their residency in targeted battleground states for the fall campaign.

Pamella Cash-Roper and her husband, of Pittsboro, N.C., are unemployed due to health problems and can't afford gas to leave the house much.

Xiomara Rodriguez, of Reno, Nev., served in the U.S. Coast Guard and is concerned about veterans affairs.

Beth Robinson, of Chesapeake, Va., has multiple sclerosis and, as the wife of a Marine who has served repeated tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, is concerned about the housing market's decline on their future relocations and being a single parent when her husband is deployed.

Roy Gross, a truck driver from Taylor, Mich., is a single father to a college-age daughter.

I saw her interview after her speech last night...upon closeup inspection - she should try to get her money back from whoever did her face rebuild - she is scary looking.

She’s further infuriating Hil’s supporters. They’re not “victims,” they’re angry voters. Big difference. You’re only a victim if you feel like one; anger contains the power to get moving. Hopefully, a significant number will move to McCain.

LoL! That sums up her "tough words" nicely.

In a sane world that headline would read, "Queen of 'Victim Politics' Tells Disappointed Clinton Supporters to Avoid 'Victim Politics'.

Sympathy Night’s theme is “look at what Bush did to us”

I’m unemployed (after 17 years with the same company)
My husband is partially disabled due to 2 unsucessful back surgeries
We sold our house last fall
We have a 13 year old daughter
We are struggling and lost so much in the past five years

I am voting for McCain

Hillary’s campaign is suffering from a late-term abortion, but Madame Pelosi won’t understand the victim analogy in that case. Will we see SanFranNan grabbing the scissors for the skull-thrust?

Watching Pelosi’s performance on the TV last night was made me cringe. She was that embarrassing. Watching her eyes keep darting to the teleprompter, turning her head like some automoton on a production line, chewing either gum or cud, and grasping the podium like it was the only way to remain standing. You could see that scarecrow wanted to be anywhere else but there, on live TV before the public. Reminded me of a suspected criminal in a line up.
