Yeah, we’ve been waiting for China to “open up” since what, 73? When did they lose the memo that these are Communists?

Anyone who thought it would open hardline commie China is quite naive. These are hard Maoists running this horribly oppressed country, not sane, rational capitalists. The only reason commie China allowed capitalism was to support their communism, which produces NOTHING.

Which reminds me, how is the American left?

“We encourage the government of China to demonstrate respect for human rights, including freedom of expression and freedom of religion, of all people during the Olympic Games and beyond,” a U.S. Embassy statement said Sunday.”

Despite this narrow-minded view that China should be more open, Barack Obama (a Blessing from God, N. Pelosi) has observed that Communist China would be a good place to operate a business. Apparently, Obama can see more redeeming attributes than basic rights and freedom.

Only the gullible, the same fools who believed that Putin was "more reasonable" or was a man who was "very straight forward and trustworthy," could believe that granting China the Olympic Games would make them more "open."

Sad to say, that includes not just those on the Left, but our President.

It's odd that someone who could see the dangers of the Radical Islamists could be so blind to the dangers of other enemies of freedom.

China wouldn’t be open if Nixon hadn’t started the ball rolling. Now it’s a little funny and strange. China’s loves is capitalism as long as its Communism is driving.

The West keeps making concessions to the Communist tyrants who rule China hoping each concession will bring a little more openess, a little more freedom. But it doesn’t work. China has capitalism, but the Chinese people don’t have freedom.

Openness and tolerance? Who expected that? Some kind of nut? A "free trader?"

I cannot find it on the 'Net but I remember Dan Rather in Beijing just hours before the Tiananmen massacre saying that China was a "kinder, gentler nation."

(Hmmm.. now that I think about it. I remember Mao's China from the news stories about hundreds of thousands, millions dead. The Chi-Coms massacred just a hundred (a few thousand?) at Tiananmen. Maybe Rather was right.)

Unfortunately American capitalism seems to love communism as long as there’s a buck to be made off it.

It’s a two way street. I think Bubba Bill made it a freeway of classified and clandestine goods.

“OPEN UP”??? Nice when reality sets in for Leftists. Communism is ALWAYS that way, it’s always IN CONTROL, geez, get a clue wouldya?

“Tolerance”?? There is NO tolerance in Communism, only for the party elite, the rest are slaves to the state. Persecution is still rife in China DUDE, catch on?

Sorry, but I get fired up over ignorance of Marxism/Communism and it’s right in front of their faces, all they have to do is observe, study history, get a brain, apply same to today’s world.

Well, the President and Sec. Rice were surprised that Hamas candidates were elected. I suppose that would go in line with expectations for China to be more open.

lol here come the required platitudes about human rights, when the real deal is every US corporation wants access to both chinese labor and chinese market, AND the chinese government loans Washinton tens of billions a year, not to mention whatever direct assistance they provide politicians and parties.

Money is fungible. Most don’t care where they get their dollars, whether it’s from slave labor in China, or under-age factory workers in Indonesia.

Gee the 1933 Olympics were so successful in opening up Nazi Germany, I can see why they are disappointed that there wasn’t similar success in Bejing. (sarcasm)

Stupidity of this magnitude is usually reserved for the Commerce and Treasury Departments.
