This may seem like splitting hairs, but I don't think it is. First, I confess to not knowing Lieberman's explicit record on abortion.

But I do know this: it is possible for a good person to be woefully -- perhaps even intentionally -- oblivious to the sacredness of human life.

It is quite another to for a father to utter the words, "I wouldn't want my daughter punished with a baby."

Perhaps the end result is the same, but for completely different reasons. The former may have a conscience that can be informed. The latter is much further down the road to perdition.

Does it change the calculus? Well, I have to vote for a demonstrably pro-life president. At the moment I cast that vote, his vice president really doesn't enter the calculus -- I am not voting for him. I will cast my vote according to the dictates of my conscience based upon the known facts at the time. I will certainly hope for Mr. Lieberman's -- and Mr. Obama's, for that matter -- joyful enlightenment on the topic.

But let dispense with the flower prose and be direct: what obama said is the verbal equivalent of what Hitler did to the Jews. That's my opinion. He's not just stupid, he's barren.

For all that we know, Stanley Ann Dunham may have verbalized this to Barry O' when he was a young child. He had to come to this conclusion some way. What happened when he was living with his mother, before Lolo Soetoro, the man who adopted him and gave him his name and his nationality and religion, arrived on the scene? Did his mother or his grandparents (the white ones) verbalize this or did Barry O' somehow come to this conclusion on his own? Did he hear the talk in the lunchroom while in the private school in Honolulu about how a girl having a baby would be like punishing her for wanting to have sex with her boyfriend? Did he perhaps experience sexual intimacy with someone while he was in school, before Michelle, and have the girl tell him that getting pregnant would be like going to prison? WHERE did this idea come from?

My own daughter had a baby out of wedlock and placed him for adoption with a couple who had been unsuccessful in getting pregnant. She knew this was the best thing for the child, because she was only 19 and hung around with a lot of girls her age who kept their babies and hauled them around on their hips at the places my daughter frequented. Places like "7-Eleven" at three AM (no text messaging in those days). And my daughter wanted better for her son. After 21 years, they found each other (on MySpace), emailed, talked on the phone, and visited before he went to Iraq and while he was here for a 3-week furlough. She's met the adoptive parents and his adopted siblings. She didn't ever think of him as some kind of punishment for her behavior. He was her baby, nothing less. The pregnancy was the result of sexual intimacy before she was old enough to be ready to marry, settle down and raise a family. And she didn't think it fair to the child to raise him in a one-parent household. No one EVER said anything to her about him being punishment, but we often mentioned what a blessing he was going to be to his adoptive parents. And he is. And my daughter and her husband and children are blessed by knowing him as an adult. And as her mother, I'm proud that she decided to have the baby and put him up for adoption. The "other A word" wasn't even on her list of options.

What kind of a man would call any of his grandchildren "punishment?" It would be your GRANDCHILD, Barry Obama, it is not your daughter's punishment. Lord have mercy on us all.
