I like West...but if he is for government subsidies for people who live in hurricane and flood prone areas, by their own choice, I might have to reconsider. I hope I’m wrong.

This is about wind damage coverage for the State of Florida. Not flood damage. And he's clearly supporting a regional solution between States that have the same problem as Florida.

Thanks for the ping!
GO Lt.C. West. I hope Klein has no choice but to debate and Florida sees what an incompetent boob they have elected!

West's solution suggestions:
1. Take a Regional approach to the issue. Florida is not the only state to suffer catastrophic losses in a storm. 2. Have insurance companies pool resources across state lines to minimize risk and increase coverage options. 3. Allow tax credits to cover catastrophic repairs beyond insurance payouts. 4. Continue to refine the process in later phases but get workable solutions on the table now!
I think these are reasonable and practical approaches.

Name a place that is not subject to some form of natural disaster.Even where I live is...but I don't ask other taxpayers to subsidize my insurance. I pay state income tax, Florida residents don't. If they want some government entity to pay for their insurance they can have their state institute an income tax too. No cake and eat it too if I'm paying for the cake.
To: IMissPresidentReagan
I think these are reasonable and practical approaches. Yes, but this is his "interim course of action" and he clearly implies that he thinks federal legislation to "bring much needed relief to Florida homeowners and their families" is the long term solution.
To: Prokopton
I'll bear that in mind when the coming ice age shoves your property toward Louisiana ;o)

Re: No cake and eat it too if I’m paying for the cake.
I live on the gulf - by my choice - so I alone am responsible for whatever happens to me, my family and my stuff if we have a disaster. I feel the same way you do on lots of issues - like the CHIP program. If people already have children they can’t afford and expect me to help pay their bills, why are they having more children? Seems like we have little say anymore about how others spend our money.
