Obama Looking to Diminish Superdelegates (In 2012)
Washington Post ^ | Aug 20, 2008 | Dan Balz

Posted on 08/20/2008 5:16:13 PM PDT by decimon

Barack Obama's campaign will call next week for the creation of a new commission to revise the rules for selecting a presidential nominee in 2012 with a goal of reducing the power of superdelegates, whose role became a major point of contention during the long battle between Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The commission also will be urged to redraw the calendar for 2012 to avoid starting the primaries and caucuses so early, and also to look specifically at assuring more uniform rules and standards for those caucuses.

Why doesn’t he just do away with them? Or would that be above his pay grade, too?

What? He wants to do away with all the things that have him in line for the nomination? I’m surprised he doesn’t want to go to an all caucus nominating procedure

I thought I heard in a news report today that Stephanie Tubbs Jones who was hospitalized today, was to head up a committee about changes to superdelegates in future elections to be held on Sept 4.

Look for the end of the electoral college before the 2012 elections also. BIG city will be in charge of selecting who runs this country from now on.

I don’t expect it to be around in 2012 after Obama and his 9% Approval Rating DemocRATik Congress gets through with us.

Barack Obama's campaign will call next week

Call for, hell. He should be directing such activities. He is their nominee. He should be dictating policy, not suggesting ideas.

What IS it with the dems and their popularity-contest caucuses, superdelegates who can override the real voters, and split-the-delegates-according-to-who-got-what-percentage system? Why don't they just have a primary like the grown-ups do: the voters go to the polls and cast their secret ballots, and the winner of each state takes all of that state's marbles.

No superdelegates, no funny-business, high-pressure caucuses, and none of this "there are no winners or losers" BS about the state's delegates.
