Debra Median Must Pay Attorney's Fees in Suit Against RPT, Judge Says
Quarum Report ^ | August 18, 2008 | Harvey Kronberg

A judge has now assessed attorney’s fees in the suit filed by Wharton County Republican County Chairwoman Debra Medina against the Republican Party of Texas. The suit, which alleged irregularities in how party convention delegates were selected in three counties, was dismissed just before the state convention in June.

The plaintiffs were assessed $14,500 in attorney’s fees so far with the judge specifying further fees depending on how far the plaintiffs choose to appeal the original ruling. If the plaintiffs unsuccessfully appeal all the way to the Texas Supreme Court, their attorney’s fees could run as high as $39,500.

Anyone that was at the Republican Party of Texas convention can appreciate this bit of shedenfreud.

I don't know the merits of their court filings, but they did get the shaft at that convention. I may have taken similiar action if I was put in their position.

Not all of them showed up for the purpose of disrupting the conventions. Many of the Paul folks who got involved in our county found enough commonality to stick around to help defeat the democrats this fall. It helps that they were treated fairly here.

This is a very driven group that can make a significant contribution. It's a shame that some republican officers were so paranoid that they chose to abuse the rules and make matters even worse.

When you get ambushed, you don’t worry about Marquis of Queensbury rules of boxing. The Paulbots picked the fight by throwing a sucker punch. The RPT’s attorneys took them out with lethal legal skill when it counted. Pardon me if I have zero sympathy for the Paulbots now that the courts are punishing them.

Of course just because the RPT was aware of the sucker punch coming and deftly avoided the blow doesn’t mean that they are required to turn the other cheek. The Paulbots “brought a knife to a gunfight” and suffered the consequences of attacking a smarter, able and more prepared opponent.

The Paulbots got treated more fairly than they deserved at the Convention. The process was open and transparent, unlike their organized conspiracy to damage the Republican Party. Frankly the FBI and FEC ought to investigate those responsible, but I doubt they will.

If the Paulbots want to sulk and pout, I don’t really care. Just stay away from the tainted Koolaid that the liberals are selling in the guise of Libertarianism. ;)
