FLDS Children See Dog First Time in Life

Dogs are not allowed and never have been on the FLDS compound. So most kids had never seen one and many have never even seen a picture of a dog.

But when some of the children were housed at a San Antonio shelter they requested to finally see a four footed friend.

The call for a dog went to Pasty Swendson, a former TV personality, now owner of Pennies from Heaven, a dog therapy service.

The fragile meeting was arranged. After all, the kids didn’t know a dog from a gopher. Swendson says she brought her Golden Retriever, two smaller dogs and her Irish Wolfhound.

“When we entered the room, the kids, boys and girls, showed restraint. But soon enough they became excited and the first dog they went to was the 135 pound Wolfhound.”

Swendson says the children were well behaved, spelled aloud the dogs names, examined their fur, toes and faces and expressed amazement at them.

The 90 minute “therapy session” was over too soon says Swendson. “I could tell one little boy did not want to go back. He wanted to stay there with us.”

“It was bittersweet seeing those kids go,” she says.

“Harder still was knowing that they would return to the compound, without the happiness of having a pet.”

“Maybe one day they’ll have the opportunity."

A follow up visit never materialized. By then the children had been returned to the compound.

Never seen a dog? I find this hard to believe.

Wonder if it’s something similar to Muslims where they view dogs as unclean animals.

See! See! What did I tell you!? The FLDS Mormons are indeed America’s own, homegrown wahabis. Not only are they misogynist polygamists and child abusers but they even hate dogs just like the muzzies!

Some people don’t tolerate pets. No dogs, no cats, no goldfish, no nothing.

A pity.

Fences and "No trespassing" signs have proliferated in Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz., as residents have moved to block out meddlesome media and gawky sightseers in recent years.

Now there is a new kind of warning in this polygamous community at the Utah/Arizona state line 'Beware of Pit Bull'.

Yep, pit bull, not just any dog, but one with a reputation for having a bad attitude and mean bite.

Salt Lake Tribune photographer Trent Nelson and I spotted this particular sign last week in Hildale. And we laughed.

Here's why.

There are no dogs in Hildale or Colorado City. FLDS leaders banned them a few years ago after the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy who was killed by his family's dog, which some say was a pit bull.

A day later, an order went out that there were to be no dogs in town. If families couldn't bear putting their own dogs to death, a crew headed by Dee Jessop would do it for them.

"They killed every dog in town," says Isaac Wyler, an ex-FLDS member who still lives in the community.

As for the sign spotted on Paul Holm's house?

"That's for the reporters," Wyler said. "That got put up about six months ago."

Every one in town gets a chuckle out of it, he said.

But don't take his word for it. Or mine. Just ask yourself this, if for some reason you want to knock on that particular home's door: Do I feel lucky or don't I?

“Some people don’t tolerate pets. No dogs, no cats, no goldfish, no nothing.”

Which is true.

But, how often is it an inclusive of 10,000 people?

“”He (Warren Jeffs) came in one day and decided that dogs were evil,” Shurtleff explains. “And every single dog in town was eliminated.” .”

He, (Warren Jeffs) came in one day and decided that ‘school’ was evil. And all the children were taken out of school (even though the school was run and staffed by the FLDS).

He, (Warren Jeffs) came in one day and decided that all his father’s wives were now his wives. And it became so.

He, (Warren Jeffs) came in one day and decided that any female, no matter how young, could be given to himself or one of his LOYAL INNER CIRCLE as ‘child brides’ in reward for their loyalty. And from then on it was so.

He, (Warren Jeffs) came in one day and decided the world was going to end, and that the pick of the litter of the FLDS should follow (or be drug by the heels) to the YFZ Ranch to prepare for that occurrence. And then, it didn’t happen, so he predicted it again. And then, it didn’t happen.

Well, I guess you can’t win em all!

Telling it like it is, eh? Some of our new members aren’t going to like that.

“Some of our new members aren’t going to like that.”

Some of the ‘old’ members won’t like it either.

But, it is the truth.

Have not kept up with all the FLDS stuff lately but did see a story where Texas CPS dropped 30+ cases. Also seen/heard about the 8 cases where CPS is trying to force the “limit contact” thing. That will be a loser for CPS also.

I don't get involved in these car crashes, but I had an amusing thought, related to the execution of the Maryland mayor's dogs:

At least the kiddies didn't have to see their dogs shot to death in front of them during the "intervention".

;-)

We don’t have pets. We used to have a golden retriever. My son was allergic to him so we found him a good home. Now I don’t have the messes to clean nor do I have to spend money on an animal that I’d rather spend on my kids. Not everyone loves animals. Our home is a much happier one without the dog. Yes, I realize I am in a very tiny minority here!! It’s kind of like having grandkids. I love my friends’ pets but I get to leave them and go home. Best of both worlds. :0)
