Washington's Crossing by David Hackett Fisher which came out around 2005, impressed me so much that I gave the audio of it to several people for Christmas. It is such a good narrative about the struggle for independence and how close we came to not having a constitution at all. The enemy was not England so much as the reluctance of our own people to step up and do what was necessary to obtain their own freedom. Human nature being what it is, the struggle to keep this Republic from melding into a one world socialist, communist, enslaving government goes on.

just listened to Sec. Rice and I echo your opinion. I could not believe Wallace asked the final question of Rice -—who she would vote or.

Sens. Mca??? and Ridge..... being interviewed by Wallace -— the women sen. reminds me of Albright — and Wallace true to form, give more time to a dem.

btw.... the Rick Warren program was great!!!

He is probably auditioning for the full-time gig, and decided to play it straight.

I think you're right as I look back on it. Wouldn't it be funny if he found out it felt good to play it straight and kept on doing it. What if it spread.

I probably should have made a stronger disclaimer than "(shamelessly paraphrasing)". She spoke in very tough diplomatese, but it was still diplomatese.

She referred to removing them from or not accepting them into organizations like G-7, I think she said WTO, and others that would be helpful for them in terms of cooperation in expanding their economy and assimilating them into the 21st century (from me: poverty and stagnation).

She also referred to the unity of neighboring nations against them and other nations joining defense organizations against them and the disgust and rejection of other nations at their behavior (isolation).

Again, I'm still paraphrasing, but I think it comes pretty close to what she said. She was still a diplomat, but an obviously angry and very determined diplomat. I'm not a diplomat so I don't want anybody to think the exact words I used were hers.

I agree with you on their demographics being unhealthy. I didn't know that blunt-force trauma was the chief cause of death, but given what I've seen lately, I find it easy to believe. If you post that link, please ping me. Thanks.

Morgan, I still think she might steal the nomination from Obama. Consider:

His polls numbers are bad, considering what was expected.
John Edwards has been neutralized.
Obama has had a gaffe a week, culminating in this debacle at Rick Warren’s church.
Reverend Wright, Michelle, Ayers, etc.
Hillary gets her way both to speak and to get her name placed in nomination.
Hillary forces loathe Obama.

I wonder how many super-delegates are secretly switching their votes back to Hillary?

Bahbah, I should add to my earlier post that I have now seen FNS and on there Condi did say that there would be a peacekeeping force of (gag) Russians left in the region(s). I can't remember if it was just Ossetia or abkhazhzhia too.

She said that was based on earlier agreements that were signed in the early '90s and that only the forces agreed to then would be permitted and would only be permitted within the enclave(s). No more 6 miles out.

I guess our side should keep commitments, but if it were I, I'd say their renigging on current signed agreements day after day negates our need to honor ours to them. That's just one of the many reasons I'm not in charge...

To: shrinkermd

shrinkermd, your analogy to the Velveteen Rabbit was beautiful. I think you hit something there. I have been aggravated at McCain, as most people on this site know, for years. It seemed like he was always around grousing about something or throwing a wrench in the works.

Yet, when I looked at him last night, I saw a guy who really does care about the country and is doing what he thinks is right. It made me reconsider my thinking and remember a lesson I keep forgetting: two people (like Rumsfeld and McCain) can both be doing their best and yet disagree. It doesn’t mean either is a bad man.

Hi, rodguy!

Sorry I am late in getting back. I sell on eBay and Sunday afternoons are when I do my listings.

Great to see so many people on here. After the skirmishes of the last year, I think most of us are in agreement on the major issues in this election, and I am almost certain our convention will be a LOT less divisive that the democrats’

Gosh, Miss Marple, if that was to happen it would be just chaos for the dems. The blacks would riot, and then leave the party in droves. It would be 1968 all over again.

My feeling is that even the superdelagates would rather Obama lose than risk that. 2012 is only 4 years away.

Then again, I’m using logic and that, in the dem party, is not a common tool.

You know, it seems to me that you have a woeful understanding of Civil War History. Lincoln didn’t do beans about keeping morale up. Have you heard of the New York Draft Riots? How about his general (McClellan) who ran against him saying he didn’t know how to conduct the war? How about his own cabinet being at odds with some of his decisions?

Lincoln had a high, squeaky voice. He wasn’t an orator in the style of the day. He did have a good sense of humor, though, a trait which George W. Bush also has.

Lincoln’s success was because he wouldn’t quit and was determined to hold the Union together.

Sorry to butt in.

I heard similar sentiments from Rice and I agree with you. I don’t think we know the extent of the possible and I am certain Rice and Bush have a plan in place to accomplish what needs to be done.

The next time you tattle to the Moderator please afford me the same 13 minutes and 34 advanced warning which you accorded your special friend, rodguy911, so I may wisely utilize the time to save all my endangered comments to my hard drive, lest they fall prey to the internet equivalent of book burning.

I implore you not to let spite and petty jealousy deprive future generations of the profound opportunity to learn from my comments, each one a special gem, a precious jewel, a treasure to bestow upon posterity.

Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.

You and I are of like minds. You are more analytical, I’m coming from a gut reaction. I do NOT trust Hillary and nothing would surprise me as to Bill or Hillary.

Hope this isn’t too disjointed. I have to quit for now.

Cedric, I never contacted the administrator about you or anyone else. You may believe it or not. Do note that a lot of other people read the thread and everyone of them can hit the abuse button for a variety of reasons.

I would like and am asking for your cooperation in keeping this thread free from petty insults, jabs, jeers, and smears. I asked you, and I asked the others to keep it that way.

If you think you’ve been insulted, try turning the other cheek. I have asked others—even your self-perceived antagonists—to do so also.

This should not be too difficult for anyone at all.

The perfect analogy of Hillary Clinton is Jadis of Charn in C.S. Lewis's The Magician's Nephew, one of the Chroniciles of Narnia.

In that book, the children discover a dead world and unwittingly awaken Queen Jadis, who has been in suspended animation waiting for someone to come. She had been at war with her sister, and when she saw that her sister would prevail, she spoke the deplorable word, which ended all life on her world (except for her). Horrified, the children asked why she did it, and Jadis answered "Because otherwise my sister would win."

There you have it in a nutshell. Hillary is Jadis, and I think if she can do it she will speak the deplorable word at the convention. The democrats are in a lose-lose situation right now, with certain doom under Obama and certain doom if Hillary makes her move. If they keep Obama, they lose the blue collar vote and the older white women. If they dump Obama, they stir up the black community and lose their votes, as well as the university kids, who will stay home or go to Nader.

I am looking forward to the convention. Heheheh.
