Red Army Effects Junction With Kemal's Troops After Overrunning the Republic.
SOVIET SET UP IN TIFLIS
Capital May Be Used as Base for Invasion of Persia-
Americans Safe So Far.

CONSTANTINOPLE, Feb. 10 (Associated Press).-Bolshevist troops appear to have overrun the Republic of Georgia, completing the junction of the forces of the Moscow Government with the Turks. The Georgian Government, which fled from Tiflis before the Soviet advance, is reported to have halted at Kutais, on the railroad between Tiflis and Batum.

Skirmishes which are reported to have occurred between Sochi and Gagri, on the Black Sea, are taken to indicate a general Bolshevist advance on all sides, with Batum as its ultimate object.

The Bolsheviki are organizing a Black Sea fleet. Two Bolshevist auxiliary cruisers are shelling Sochi in support of cavalry columns operating against the Georgians.

A provisional Soviet government has been set up in Tiflis.

Well, this time the Turks don’t care too much for the Bolsheviks.

In 1921, the Russians moved in after a phony border dispute between Georgians and an ethnic minority (the Armenians), ostensibly in order to assist the Armenians. Western Powers issued strongly worded protests, but did nothing.

Okay, the mention of ‘Constantinople’ and ‘Bolsheviks’ had me scratching my head for a few seconds until I looked at the date.

1921 is not so coincidently the year my Grandparents immigrated to the U.S. and changed their name.

So here I am watching it happen again.

They say history repeats itself. I seem to remember back in my high school days Russia did this very thing in Hungary and the results were not good and lasted a very long time.

The Ossetians sided with the Bolsheviks then, and they are still on their side today.

Yup!

The Russians have been taking advantage of this fact and have been agitproping them since 1992. Georgia has essentially gone around the problem but it got to the point that they had set up their own little Army, sort of a National Guard for the little county.

I think what happened is that Georgian troops went in to shut them down, and a shooting war broke out, which was exactly what the Russians were waiting for.

1921 repeat.........wash, then rinse out democracy.
