Prophet Muhammad novel scrapped

Plans to release a novel about Prophet Muhammad's child bride A'isha have been scrapped by US publishers Random House over fears it could spark violence.

The Jewel of Medina, the debut novel by journalist Sherry Jones, was due to hit shelves on 12 August.

Random House said it had been advised the book "might be offensive" to some Muslims, and "could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment."

"We decided, after much deliberation, to postpone publication," it added.

The decision was taken "for the safety of the author, employees of Random House, booksellers and anyone else who would be involved in distribution and sale of the novel," said the company's deputy publisher Thomas Perry in a statement.

The novel traces the life of A'isha, who is often referred to as Muhammad's favorite wife, from her engagement at the age of six, until the prophet's death.

Isn’t this special. I can’t think of any books delayed because they might upset Christians, Hindus, and Jews. Muslims sure are special.

Just like “The DaVinci Code” was never published, because you know those Christians would have just completely flown off the handle.

Demonstrating conclusively that Random House has no moral obligation to publish for the sake of truth or Constitutional guarantees. The decision is not even about money. It is about slavish obsequity. A desire to cower before the enemies of our culture’s Judeo/Christian heritage. These and all other effete liberals lie prostrate before our enemies in unctious obeisance. They are the turds, the offal of our society, our waste and sewage.

the book "might be offensive"

Appeasement out of fear is the heart of political correctness.

I read the prologue to this book. It paints Mohammed as a very sympathetic character. This really looks more like a ploy to increase demand for publication. (Follow the money.)

Pathetic. Not Random House in particular - they’re book publishers, not soldiers. But it’s pathetic that Western civilization is reduced to avoiding certain topics because a few uncivilized savages promise to commit mayhem.

Didn't she do a couple of seasons on "Cosby"?

Life in multicultural America. Daniel Pipes said in an article a year or more ago, speaking of Muslims living in American: “They are beginning to change the way we live.”

The most easily offended people on earth, some of whom will go stark raving mad at what is nothing more than an exercise of free speech other religions say little or nothing about.
