Republican Sheriff Runs Attack Ad Against McCain[OH][Illegal Immigration]
Dayton Daily News ^ | 07 Aug 2008 | Dayton Daily News

COLUMBUS, OH — Republicans can usually expect a friendly reception in Butler County, but the mood of at least one Republican there is less than friendly toward John McCain.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones doesn’t think much of McCain’s views on illegal immigrants and wants to make sure the presumptive Republican nominee for president knows it. So when McCain makes a stop for a fundraiser in the county today, Aug. 7, he’ll encounter something you don’t usually see in a presidential campaign: an attack ad from a fellow Republican.

Jones, who’s become known nationally for cracking down on illegal immigration in Butler County, said he’s using money from his campaign fund for a half-page ad in the Cincinnati Enquirer questioning McCain on the issue. The ad is to run today and Saturday, said Jones. Here’s the script:

“Sen. McCain: Why haven’t we heard from you on immigration?

“Are you avoiding this American issue???

“We are all EARS”

McCain campaign spokesman Paul Lindsay had this response:

“John McCain will secure the borders first as president, but he also believes that we need a comprehensive solution to the issue of illegal immigration.”

McCain, a senator from Arizona, joined forces last year with Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts on a failed immigration reform plan that Jones and others sharply criticized.

I am casting an anti-Obama vote but McPain does have to answer for his amnesty stupidity.

No "buts", McCain. There are no "buts" where doing the right thing is concerned.

Any candidate who believes there are does not deserve our vote.

Heh, heh. You just gave me a great idea. The next time the McCain calls asking for money, I'm going to tell them I will send them 100 pesos.

I wonder how this makes McCain feel about “maverick” status? Apparently this sheriff has “out-mavericked” him by not towing the official party line and making nice with our presumptive nominee. Go get ‘im!

but he also believes that we need a comprehensive solution to the issue of illegal immigration.

We already have it Senator. It's called enforcing existing law, which FYI is quite comprehensive already. And it works well when actually tried.

Perhaps someone should ask the Senator if he understands that it is the Constitutional duty of the President to enforce the law. Damn, there's that pesky Constitution again.

While I agree that McCain has some major problems when it comes to illegal immigration, I have to ask what exactly this Republican sheriff hopes to accomplish here. Does he think that Obama will be any better, because by tearing down McCain less than 3 months from the election he is essentially helping Obama’s candidacy. This smacks of immaturity and short sighted thinking.

I’ll just go ahead and put on my flame retardant suit now.

Very simple.

We know what a rat wants and what they will do. That is a given. Obama wants amnesty and massive more amounts of illegal immigration.

The Maverick, the eco warrior Mccain is the unknown. Why is it he will secure the border when he is president. Why not push for it now? He had 25 yrs to push for it in the Senate.

Nothing. It is easy to criticize the dems, we know how they stand. It is hard to fix the Repubs. The same could be said of the 04 election. I wish there was a Conservative repub who should have ran against the pres in the primary to force him to the right. Didn't happen, so he pushed amnesty.

Do you want the Repubs to be known as the party or amnesty? Reagan and now, McCain? Either way, this election is summed up:

Whoever wins, we lose.

Get with the program. The number one issue this country is facing is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!! The liberal media refuses to address the elephant in the room. Both major candidates are PRO AMNESTY. This will allow 20-30 million third worlders to become citizens along with their relatives. Do the math.

From the coverage in The Washington Times:

"The U.S. Senate's job is to protect and serve the citizens of this country. At times it seems as though they have forgotten whence they came," he said. "Make no mistake about the fact that the immigration system is beyond broken.

OMG. Someone gets it!

McCain needs one upside the head to bring him back into reality.

A healthy dose of the raspberries during this visit would be nice.

So why doesn’t he go with his base and do a flip on the issue? It would appear that he would gain more than he loses. And I’m sure Sheriff Joe - also in Arizona - would sure appreciate his help. Anybody with any snap would not live anywhere near the border any more. There is going to be war.

"Get with the program. The number one issue this country is facing is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!! "

Wrong! Number one is and always will be NATIONAL SECURITY, which does have as a component illegal immigration, but more importantly, Iraq (almost done there), Afghanistan, and Iran. The current Georgia/Russia flareup might even rank a little higher on the scale of priorities than the Illegal Alien problem, which has shown recent signs of improving due to self-deportation, as happened under Eisenhower's "Operation Wetback".

McCain is a total IDIOT for not dropping the Bush/Kennedy position on this issue and going with the Republican BASE and the majority of American’s for NO AMNESTY. If he did, he’d be in like flynn...so, as it is...the country’s desire for ‘change’ wins....he simply cannot beat even an inexperienced Obama.

I’ve spoken over the phone with him and Sheriff Jones has been a fantastic patriot on this issue, speaking out all across Ohio and the country, just as Sheriff Arpaio has.

Go Sheriff Jones!!

Is McCain programmed to push amnesty and other perks for illegal aliens? Are foreign handlers blackmailing him and Cindy or bribing them? The negative consequences of his agenda is obvious. The question is why is he pursuing such a destructive path for this country. He is the only GOP candidate for him I cannot hold my nose and vote.

I would be better able to hold my nose and vote for this stupid man--and I've come to the conclusion that his IQ has got to be somewhere near room temperature--had a concerted opposition waiting for him once he's in the WH. We need some determined mavericks in the House of Reps so it won't be so easy for this idiot to "reach across the aisle" and create all kinds of mischievous legislation with the help of people like Kennedy, etc.

Can you picture McCain's inauguration? It probably won't make CSPAN. I won't care to watch it. Few Repubs will bother. The independents and moderates who'll vote for him will also lack all enthusiasm. It'll be the dreariest event ever--rather like our convention will be.

NO need to put on that suit.

I agree with the Sherrif. Is it a ‘tear-down’? Or perhaps letting Juan know that he is getting support, but he needs to rethink his positions. If he hears it enough, maybe (I know, just wishing here) he’ll catch a clue.

ENFORCE the immigration laws we now have. Haven’t we been reading about a slow down on the numbers coming in, and some self-deportations based on limited enforcement of laws?

GET OFF the carbon credit and Green platform. Drill here, Drill now.

PRIVATIZE Social Security, do it now.

REPEAL the Prescription Drug fiasco before it can eat the budget.

MAKE permanent the Tax Cuts under GW.

RUN from any mention of National Health care. It would be far cheaper to buy those who need ‘free health care’ a plane ticket to England so they can participate in it.

Juans only saving graces are two:

1. He has a clue about Iraq, Islam, and terror.

2. He is not Obama.

Other than that, he is a 1960’s Dem.
