Sen. John McCain's campaign is urging supporters to spam blogs and forums with official talking points, according to the Washington Post. If you do a good job, you can even win prizes.
"That, in essence, is the McCain campaign's pitch to supporters to join its new online effort, one that combines the features of 'AstroTurf' campaigning with the sort of customer-loyalty programs offered by airlines, hotel chains, restaurants and the occasional daily newspaper."
"People who sign up for McCain's program receive reward points each time they place a favorable comment on one of the listed Web sites (subject to verification by McCain's webmasters). The points can be traded for prizes, such as books autographed by McCain, preferred seating at campaign events, even a ride with the candidate on his bus, known as the Straight Talk Express."
Why not? The music industry has been paying bloggers to hype certian acts for years.
Vote McCain! At least he’s not moslem.
Wait, is this web site on the list? How many more times do I have to do this before I win something?
The McCain Campaign would have to pay out a lot more bloggers if anti-Obama posts counted towards booty.
Vote McCain. None of his handlers ever blew up the Pentagon.
LOL. I guess he got the idea from the RUDY! and Flip Romney campaigns. They both had TONS fo spammers here. Some even still post occasionally...
I have no idea I am not signed up for it.
“Astroturf” is a good nickname for Obama. Looks good on the surface ....... but phony as hell.
Punk the prez? - Moby's anti-Bush tricks (Beware of the Moby Dicks) (New York Daily News 2/09/04 Rush & Molloy)
One of Sen. John Kerry's celebrity supporters is ready to pull out all the stops to get him elected. Republicans are shrieking over a suggestion by rocker Moby that Democrats spread gossip about President Bush on the Internet. "No one's talking about how to keep the other side home on Election Day," Moby tells us. "It's a lot easier than you think and it doesn't cost that much. This election can be won by 200,000 votes."Moby suggests that it's possible to seed doubt among Bush's far-right supporters on the Web.
"You target his natural constituencies," says the Grammy-nominated techno-wizard. "For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you're an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion.
"Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, 'What's all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?'"
Moby didn't claim that he believed the abortion story...
How many points do you have?
If you don’t want to get pinged, get off the ping list.
If you don’t want to get mail from McCain’s folks, get off his email list.
If it’s unsolicited pings/emails then I suppose you are getting spammed but it has nothinig to do with the program that McCain’s campaign is promoting.
I don’t know, how many thankyou notes from Obama do you have?
Please reread my post and try again. They are not asking anyone to spam. They are not asking anyone to post items that aren’t germane to the topic at hand.
“prizes”
I would not say `Ni’ to a nice shrubbery.
“I dont know”
Why are you doing something for free when you could be earning something for your efforts?
Stupid move, if true.
Spam irritates more than it accomplishes anything.
So? Still spam. I consider talking points spam.
I consider all your shilling for Obama Spam but that doesn’t make it so.
I’m a masochist I guess...
