Poland introduces professional army

WARSAW, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Polish government on Tuesday passed a military reform program designed to turn Poland's army into a professional force, according to Polish news agency PAP.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after a cabinet meeting that Poland's obligatory draft would end with this year and that by 2010 Poland would have a fully professional army numbering 120,000troops.
Currently Poland's armed forces number over 124,000 soldiers.
Defense Minister Bogdan Klich, speaking to Polish Radio One on Tuesday, said at present career soldiers constitute some 64 percent of the entire military personnel. In 2010 the army will be fully made up of career soldiers, said Klich.
At the same time he added that he is a strong opponent of further limiting of the size of the armed forces. "I cannot imagine an 80,000 army as some would like to see. I think that 120,000 soldiers is a sufficient number and we should not go below this level."
There's a joke in there somewhere! LOL
They just raided Macy’s—they got a hot tip that Bed Linen was on the 3rd floor
The Poles have been a great help during the War on Terror. I have nothing but praise for them and Australia. What great friends.
They were a great help during WWII, just ask the RAF.
I posted a joke a while ago, in good fun, but I figure I owe it to our friends in Poland, and the Polish-Americans here, to state, in all seriousness, my admiration for the country, its sons and daughters, and their proud history.
My Stepdad was RAF. He never mentioned Polish Pilots. Interesting.
Dude, check out the movie The Battle of Britain. The scene with the Free Poles on a training mission going after the Luftwaffe against orders is just priceless.
Man, I love the Poles. They were great allies in WWII and they have been great allies in the GWOT.
I'm unclear on the concept of what constitutes a "professional" military force verses what Poland currently has.
Anybody have an answer
Polish Self Defense Minister introduced the members of the nation's first professional army in over a century by first name to the press. The press members present at the conference outnumbered the professional army by several multiples.
