Well, it was some pretty fine shooting from wherever it came from, but I’m just having a real hard time believing it came from a boat.

That seriously would be the last place I’d like to take a money shot from. much less three. I think from a parachute might be easier.

Not a mini-sub. It was Jonah, in a whale, with several sword fish.

Or, Pinnocio, in a whale, with a .50 cal. nose.

As long as the bastard is dead, I don’t care how he got it. It’s just that he “got it”, as in dead, kaput, gone, worm-food, fertilizer, or swiss cheese.

Actually, I’m not a hard guy to please.

Not a mini sub.. you would need a lot of mass to have a stable shot like that.... look at the US or the Israelis... but then again..blame the great Satan or the joooooes to cover up a inside job....

From a boat at range, no. It isn't that it's impossible, it's just that it isn't reliable enough for a professional. A shot from ashore and an escape by boat? That I might believe.

In any case, it is clear that Iran's once overwhelming influence on the area is waning, at least a little:

Syria is at a critical juncture as it pursues indirect peace talks with Israel and a closer relationship with the West, while attempting to maintain its long-standing regional alliances with Iran and the militant Shia Hezbollah of Lebanon.

Good luck with that tightrope. It sort of depends on both sides holding it taut, and they hate one another more than they love the tightrope-walker. Either would let go should it appear that the other might benefit. Welcome to politics in the Middle East.

But the word is out. The media can paint it in any terms they like but the U.S. won in Iraq and that's a flat fact. Those whose livelihood depends on separating fact from attractive fiction know it. Moammar Gaddafi may be a bit of a fruitcake but he's still sucking oxygen and if young Mr. Assad wishes to emulate him he'd better be hedging his bets. I think that's exactly what this is.

He may need further encouragements. Must make him feel as Saladin did with Assassins.

Hmm, well, yes, Saladin's buddy Richard Lionheart knew how to deal with the Assassins. He hired 'em.

Conrad of Montferrat. RIP. It's only a rumor... ;-)

General Mohammed Suleiman, one of Mr Assad’s closest confidantes, was shot dead on Friday at his chalet in the prestigious Rimal al-Zahabieh, Arabic for "Golden Sands", seafront resort, 9 miles north of Tartous on the Mediterranean coast. A sniper, apparently located out at sea, shot him in the head, neck and stomach and he was pronounced dead at a hospital in Tartous. Assassinations of leading regime figures are rare in Syria, and the Syrian authorities have scrambled to prevent news of the incident from leaking.
I guess Suleiman must have leaked, from head, neck, stomach...

Here’s some real estate agent info on the resort:

http://www.abufares.net/2006/08/rimal-zahabieh-golden-sands.html

As the departed General was a made man in Syria, he probably was occupying one of the “nice unattached single story units in front of the large green lawn with an unobstructed view of the sea.”

I doubt any reliable organization did an autopsy on the body so all we have is Syria’s word for how it went down. For all we know, it was three shots up close with a Markorov chambering a 9mm Kurtz. In other words, an inside job.

Yeah... it seems as if the shooter would have to have come in underwater, popped up in the shallows, kept a low profile while sitting on the bottom, and made the hit, then had a getaway boat which swung in and picked him up. Otherwise, the shooter just walked up, plugged the general, and then fled on foot to a Seadoo or something like that. In that case, there would have had to be a clear beach. Of course, if the resort is geared toward gov’t brass, there are probably few other guests around.

We don’t really “know” it was a sniper out across the water..... propaganda from the Syrian govt. is not exactly credible...... that scenario seems extremely improbable, for ballistics reasons. Could have been an inside job up close, or some other kind of infiltration of Syrian security and they don’t want to admit it. But what kind of sniper platform, ON OCEAN WATER, would be stable enough to assure success? Any slight waves and the first shot misses, warning the target.

One last guess -- the Syrian regime snuffed the general, as it did Mugsy the terrorist, but in such a way that Israel could be implicated by, uh, inference.

Damned sea bass. My mother warned me about them. Nasty critters. Steal your worm and leave you with air.

As my granddaughter would say, “Kill the filthy beasts”.

However, we will spare the one who got Herr Generale.
