Until the U.S. opens offshore oil drilling, it will be seen as the world's worst energy hypocrite
The American ^ | 8/1/2008 | Robert Bryce

If you think that the issue of offshore drilling is only a matter of interest to American environmental groups and the U.S. Congress, think again. At last month’s World Petroleum Congress in Madrid, the blatant hypocrisy of U.S. energy policy—demanding that OPEC members expand their oil drilling efforts while restricting offshore drilling here at home—was a prominent topic of discussion. Indeed, the U.S. ban on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf was mentioned by three of the most powerful people in the global energy business: the head of OPEC; the chief executive of Brazil’s national oil company, Petrobras; and the Saudi oil minister. All of them said the United States should start drilling in its offshore areas.

During a press conference in Madrid, Chakib Khelil, the Algerian oil minister and president of OPEC, was asked what the United States could do to lower oil prices. He mentioned three things: stabilize the value of the dollar, increase energy efficiency, and “open up your exploration. In Algeria, we have a bidding round going on. We are open. The U.S. also needs to open…offshore Florida, offshore Alaska, need to be opened to exploration.”

They should call it the Pelosi Energy Policy. The majority of Americans want us to drill domestically.

Yep. All those Dems who are so concerned with how the rest of the world view the U.S. have no problem flipping the bird to those same world citizens. When it comes to oil prices, the Dems sqwak as loud as anyone about how we should be paying less per gallon of gas, scream how it’s Bush’s fault. In essence the Dems believe the U.S. should be paying less than the rest of the world (whom they love so much) for gas. That can’t sit well with other countries. The Dems are too caught up in moaning how Bush has ruined our reputation yet, they participate in giving the finger to those other countries by demanding the U.S. somehow should be paying less than others. Definitely hypocritical.

I think "idiot" is a better word than "hypocrite" here. And the head moron is...

The Democrats want to drill overseas-—with few environmental controls——as opposed to clean drilling in the US. Democrats = Global Polluters.

“But until the United States opens its offshore waters to oil drilling, it will be seen as the world’s worst energy hypocrite.”

Oh no obambi and the rest of you liberal Dem’s, all the other cool kids (france) think we are a hypocrite...

Don’t you want to change the worlds opinion of us...hum.

Or, just sometimes...when the mood hits you and is to make the Military or America look bad in the eyes of our enemies…hum.

It is becoming more and more apparent to me everyday why the McCain campaign chose to compare obambi to paris and brittney — the dems and obambi are as fickle as little spoiled rotten rich girls...and they pout and stamp their feet until their daddy make nice...You have got to be kidding me! (puke)

We need to create a movement with organized demonstrations with pickets demanding the end to the embargo on American oil.
