A family whose house was raided by police in error is outraged that eight officers involved were honored. Police say the eight, who also took fire, "performed bravely."
First, the city apologized. Then it gave awards.
Eight Minneapolis officers received medals in City Hall Monday for their valor in a botched raid that the city apologized for last year. That isn't sitting well with the family shot at multiple times by the officers.
"I'm shocked that they're receiving awards for that night," said Yee Moua. "My family is a mess right now. My [9-year-old] son, who saw the shooting, still has nightmares and has needed therapy. They've ruined a life, and I don't understand why they would get rewarded for that."
The awards stemmed from a high-risk search in December. The eight officers -- who had SWAT training -- entered the house expecting to find a violent gang member. Instead, they found Vang Khang, a 35-year-old homeowner who thought he was being robbed. Khang shot through his bedroom door at the officers until he understood who they were.

Sheesh.
Freaking insanity often tends to get "negative attention," Chief Dolan.
Incredible.
These legally questionable paramilitary SWAT clowns love to play “cowboys and civilians”. The only good thing here is that all the civilians are still alive. Thank God and no thanks to the police.
The way it’s going, we’ll soon be seeing headlines about SWAT teams entering houses at 2:00 AM to collect unpaid parking tickets.
I lose respect for these damned Rambo cops daily.
This is not the America I want for my kids. This is the stuff that I heard happened in the Soviet Union.
Who would have thought we would be reading about it here in America?
Amazing.

So, conceivably if one cop mistakenly shoots another cop during a raid or a shootout does that cop get a medal also?
Wow! Invade more innocent people and cllect medals!
"Paging John Kerry to the Minneapolis Police Department!"
I would have said that he’s Barney Fife, but his picture looks more like Gomer Pyle.
Well they both were from Mayberry, LOL!
Unbelievable.
Outrageous endorsement of incompetance ping.
duplicate thread, but I will post it here as well.
The homeowner deserves a medal for the same reason the police are getting one.
No, but if the shot cop dies the homeowner gets a felony murder charge in most states.
Probably even if it is the wrong house.
so now they’re giving out medals just for NOT killing innocent people?
Hmm ... Good question! :-)
In Titusville Florida some 20+ years ago, a home was raided early one morning and an officer was killed by the home owner. The homeowner and his wife had hidden behind their bed when all the flash-bangs went off and the yelling started. When the bedroom door burst open, the homeowner fired his pistol.
As expected, the homeowner was arrested, vilified, and eventually exonerated. Seems the police had the wrong house. The cops were after the homeowner's adult son and 'thought' he was there. Bad Intel or no Intel can be very costly.
