Karadzic appears before UN war crimes court

THE HAGUE (AFP) — Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic stood before the UN war crimes court Thursday to face genocide charges, in his first public appearance since his arrest after nearly 13 years on the run.

Shorn of the beard and long hair he had used as a disguise until his capture on July 21, Karadzic was again recognisable as the man who became one of the most reviled figures in the Bosnian conflict of the 1990s.

Wearing a dark jacket and tie, Karazdic appeared before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to hear the 11 war crimes charges which were first laid against him in 1995.

Karadzic has indicated that he will conduct his own defence -- the same tactic adopted by his former ally late Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic, who dragged out his own ICTY trial for years and died before it ended.

I can't wait until his trial begins. Remember how Milosevic's trial was splashed all over the American televisions and newspapers everyday? Of course you don't. Do you know why it wasn't all over the news like the OJ trial? Because Milosevic completely destroyed the prosecutions charges against him. There was no way in hell Milosevic would have been even close to convicted in an American court room. They had to keep changing the rules in The Hague just to keep him in custody. The ICTY is a kangaroo court and a complete joke.

Now don't get me wrong. I was never a fan of Milosevic. I considered him to be just another thief politician and his deliberate turning of a blind eye towards war criminals such as Arkan and other Serbian paramilitary war criminals like him were reason enough for Milosevic to be tried for war crimes, but Serbs all over the world found themselves having to indirectly defend Milosevic because so many of the horsecrap accusations against Milosevic became blanket accusations against all Serbs.

Karadzic is much more innocent than Milosevic was. Just you watch. He's going to destroy the prosecution in his trial, you won't hear peep about it in the Amercian press (just like Milosevic's trial) and Karadzic will be promptly convicted of the crimes he's accused of, or he'll die a mysterious death while still on trial. You can bet big money on this.
