The tough part for me is realizing my kids are going into their teens soon. It's a way different world then when I was young and let fly...the crap I got away with clean can kill you now. That was back when HIV was relegated to bathhouses in SF. Now it's in the backyard.
My kids are very young, but we already fear the left getting its tentacles into them.
If you look at history, it really wasn't all that different. Just remember that syphilis used to be an often fatal untreatable illness and much the "hygiene" films were centered around preventing the spread of syphilis. If anything, it's sad how little we learned from the past - it's almost like we keep repeating the same public policy arguments (e.g. abstinence vs. education) over and over again.
