LeBron James Donated $20K to Barack Obama's Campaign

$20,000 (that would be twenty thousand dollars) is not that much to LeBron James. He makes slightly more money than that. However, when you're talking about it as amount that's being given away to a cause, suddenly it becomes much more substantial.

For instance, let's say that cause is not so hypothetically Barack Obama's campaign fund. Which it was/is.

Entertainers who donated $28,500 to the committees include producers Frederick W. Field and Steven Bochco and his wife, Dayna, and actors Samuel L. Jackson and Edward Norton.

NBA star LeBron James donated $20,000.

In several instances, couples doubled their donations. Professional poker player Phil Ivey and his wife, Luciaetta, for example, each gave $33,100 to the Obama Victory Committee.

I think the 20k (emphasis mine) is a pretty interesting figure for a pretty interesting athlete, given the nature of this coming election.

It would seem far to bizarre for Bron to be aligned with John McCain, although I kind of feel like his corporate attitude gives off a bit of Republican natured behavior.

And of course, not to trivialize 20 large, because Lord knows that is a lot of money (like 40 posts worth here), but relative to what LeBron makes it's not a ton. Which makes me wonder about his dedication to Barack's campaign.

On the other hand, as Clay Travis pointed out, having athletes actually flash their political beliefs through public financial endorsements is a nice growing trend in America, so maybe I shouldn't be so cynical.

What happened to the $2.3K limit?

What happened to the $2.3K limit?

Apparently that is only for Republicans and conservatives. Communists, socialists and Democrats (redundant) won't have to worry about facing any charges for wrongdoing until next year. If Obama gets elected, they won't face any charges at all.

Exactly the question that occurred to me. Either these donations were made to a get-out-the-vote, or other non-campaign purpose, or we're looking at a facial violation of FEC rules.

Was it a direct donation or was he funneling it through various PACs. Its easy to give a lot more than the limit to a pol if you go through packs and the party organization.

The writer of this piece probably does not know the difference, hence his mistake.

Oh well, he’s still an amazing B-ball player.

‘Course, I was wondering about the limit, too.

Is LeBron even a US citizen? Let’s see his birth certificate from Ohio?

I wonder how many illegal contributions he picked up on his swing through the ME and Europe.

Who's even gonna check?

We are SO non-represented in DC by our legislators and the Attorney General's office.

Where's the news in that? Had he donated to McCain, THAT would have been newsworthy.

There is no point in CFR at all. McCain should repudiate his own legislation.

My guess is that LeBron was in that Limo with Obama and Sinclair and is donating the 20k to keep Obama silent on the matter.

Or maybe Labron is actually Obama’s illegitimate son and if we were to examine LaBron’s birth certificate we would find his Obama listed as his father and his father’s place of birth being Saudi Arabia.

My theory is a bit more simple. Lebron is a frickin retard.
