As you may have heard, the National Enquirer claims to have ambushed former presidential candidate John Edwards in the Beverly Hilton the other night, where he was allegedly ronday-voo'ing with his alleged mistress and their alleged love child.
Alleged alleged alleged alleged alleged! The newspaper reports that its team confronted Edwards about it, and he ran away and hid in a men's room until security forced the reporters away. The paper says it had a photographer present; I want to see pictures. Still, the Enquirer, as sleazy as its tactics strike many people, has a better reputation on stories like this than you might think. Frankly, I believe them here -- Edwards refuses to comment -- but I do want to see photos.
Today, the Los Angeles Times ordered its bloggers not to talk about the story. Here, via Kausfiles, is the memo from an editor there:
Hey bloggers, There has been a little buzz surrounding John Edwards and his alleged affair. Because the only source has been the National Enquirer we have decided not to cover the rumors or salacious speculations. So I am asking you all not to blog about this topic until further notified.

Mickey Kaus thinks this is a mixture of the MSM trying to protect an ideologically sympathetic Democrat, and the MSM trying to play the "outmoded" role of gatekeeper, to keep the public from learning iniformation it otherwise would.
(Of course if the Enquirer is wrong here -- and it may be, though I don't think it is -- anyone passing on the story is in theory opening themselves up to a libel charge. But that does not appear to be behind the LAT editor's ban.)

As I recall (I could be mistaken) didn't the Nat'l Enquirer break the Gary Hart story? You know the picture of him with a definitely not guilty type bimbo on his lap on a boat called 'Monkey Business'.
The cat’s out of the bag and coming out with bigger claws next time. If Pony boy Edwards wasn’t guilty of the allegations why was his initial reaction when caught at the hotel to duck into a mens room?...and at 2:30 AM no less trying to sneak out! His supporters can come up with all kind of lame excuses but the man was behaving like he got caught. No way now he gets the VP nod!
The L.A. Times is as far left as anyone can get. After more than a month of a local radio station with John and Ken on KFI berating the Times, today they finally published a story about a MS13 Gang member killing a dad and his two sons up in Frisco. The guy had 3 priors but was protected by Crisco’s Sanctuary status.
They have a Gag order on their reporters to not publish anything about John Edwards being caught with his girlfriend and his child while his wife is dying of cancer.
What ever happened to a newspaper wanting to get a scoop at any cost? Is there any wonder as to why my 5 year old kid has to go to school where there are only 5 percent Americans?
At the end of 07 I did a search of a local candidate for the office of President. Duncan Hunter only turned in a result of 5. This paper makes me sick.
The National Enquirer is incredibly careful when it reports allegations concerning celebrities. They have to be, ever since the Carol Burnett verdict.
That is pretty disgusting considering Hunter is a Calfornia rep.
LA Slimes can’t be bothered to report on a favorite son candidate because he is a conservative. But don’t call them biased.
Here I am in Central Texas and I linked up to John and Ken’s interview of that nice lady (Mrs. Bologna), anyone that can listen to that one and not be affected is one cold-hearted person. John and Ken rocked on that, then I listen to other interviews archived, they do some serious reporting and do so with passion.
It’s just as well that Sen. Edwards is not going to be vice president. What does it say about HIS judgement that he chooses a rendezvous at the Beverly Hilton in the middle of the paparazzi viper pit...that’s just dumb. Hasn’t he heard of cell phones and walkie talkies? These guys are a veritable phalinx in Los Angeles.

I thought all Edwards ever sued were baby doctors trying to deliver newborns. I believe a rather nasty spot in hell is reserved for such lowlife dogs.
Hm...if they weren’t protecting a liberal Democrat, reporters would be screaming about free press, the public’s right to know, etc...
