Ex-Atlantic City mayor gets probation for embellishing war record

Former Atlantic City Mayor Robert Levy today was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine by a judge who said Levy continues to exaggerate his military service in Vietnam.

Levy, 61, had pleaded guilty in federal court in Camden in November to one count of falsifying his service record when he applied for increased veterans benefits in January 2003.

During today's hearing, Judge Jerome B. Simandle asked Levy to explain more about the dangerous missions behind enemy lines he told probation officers he participated in.

"I just picked up my M-16 and my radio and went along," said Levy, looking tan and fit with a neatly trimmed gray beard. "I didn't do this on a regular basis, but on occasion they asked me and I always said yes. I was not a hero running around like Rambo. I was scared to death."

Yes, but the media should report his party affiliation.

If it was a Republican, it would 20 times in the article.

As I said, effin liberal media.

Thanks for the ping. This guy got the same sentence as the turkey who falsely claimed the MOH.

Xavier Alvarez was sentenced to three years' probation and fined $5,000 in federal court Monday morning for falsely claiming he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Alvarez sentenced to probation

Levy can’t behind his service now. I respect most veterans but he won’t get any from me.

Slimy guy got off way too easy for such a huge crime....dishonoring our country AND demeaning those in the military who served valiantly without recognition.

Not even on your heads? I mean, after all, these are the lively college years.

Generally agree, but compared to some, his 'crime' was more psycho and fiduciary than 'legal' or real! Note

...the judge also ordered Levy to pay $25,198 to the Veterans Administration. Ironically, Levy may still collect the benefits he sought unlawfully. The VA is considering Levy's application to collect disability payments for post-traumatic stress disorder...

When the VA openned the PTSD floodgates to seemingly anyone and everyone, the temptation may have been too great for those like Clinton and Levy who never held down a 'real job' in their lives! Those of us who were lucky enough to come back, lucky enough to (more or less) avoid the health problems, lucky enough to work in industry, etc probably have a hard enough time empathizing with the walking wounded, let alone the PTSD crowd! Full disclosure...I myself find Liberal PTSDers mostly fakers, and avoid them like the plague! That said...God bless veterans all!
