55% Rate Obama’s Berlin Speech Good or Excellent

Over half of Americans (55%) rate Barack Obama’s historic speech in Berlin yesterday good or excellent, and the Democratic presidential candidate is experiencing a modest bounce over John McCain nationally in the latest Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

In a new Rasmussen Reports national survey, 26% grade the speech, delivered before an enthusiastic crowd of more than 200,000, as Excellent. Twenty-nine percent (29%) say it was good. Nearly as many (23%) feel it was only Fair, and 18% rate it as Poor. These results are based upon the 50% of voters who had heard or seen coverage of the speech last night.

Even nearly a third of Republicans (32%) give the speech good or excellent marks, but Democrats are far more enthusiastic, with 75% feeling that way. However, 39% of Republicans rate the speech Poor versus only five percent (5%) of Democrats. Forty-seven percent (47%) of unaffiliated voters say the speech was good or excellent, while 16% characterize it as Poor.

How many of the 55% heard it? The story doesn't say that those polled had actually heard the speech:

This national survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports July 24, 2008. The margin of sampling error for each survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Yes, but it was the free concert that brought about the enthusiasm.

Huh? You mean people rated it and didn't hear it? What kind of a study is this?

My theory though, is that most people who would not be prone to Obama would not have listened to the speech anyway.

The story did say, "based upon the 50% of voters who had heard or seen coverage of the speech last night". So you only had to see coverage of the speech to vote.

He now leads his GOP opponent 46% to 41%

Wonder if they asked this the same time they asked about his speach?

Looking at your post history, you seem to post a lot of pro-Obama articles and Anti-Republican articles.

Good question. I heard part of it, and I was not impressed.

Considering that it was only carried by the cable news channles and during the middle of a workday, I’d guess that the percentage of the population that actually saw the speech was pretty tiny.

Barack Obama’s historic speech in Berlin

So, Mr. "empty suit" Obama, junior senator from Illinois, addressing the crowd at a rock concert qualifies as historic now days.

Puts him right up there with Wavy Gravy telling the folks at Woodstock not to eat the brown acid.

20,000 people. And about half of them seemed bored.

Why post this garbage poll? It's as bad as that Gallup one about all of Europe wanting to vote for Obama.

Mind you, those FReepers who decided to suspend their critical faculties on THAT poll will no doubt look at this one in a more clinical way

I remember film clips (at the picture show) of large crowds in Germany circa 1930’s and 1940’s. I am not amused nor impressed.

They should have asked that 55% what they liked best about the speech. Then we would have heard exactly what Obama sounds like with an unscripted question:

Um, ah, er, uh, mm, uh...

I would make a estimate that in the state of Alabama....there might be twelve guys who actually watched the entire tape of the speech.

I’m in Germany....where the episode was carried live. I still missed it, but read the entire speech the next day.

My opinion....it was a decent political speech but lacked any value for the typical American voter. I also felt amused by world citizenship status....which the typical voter in America doesn’t care about....they want social security fixed and a reduced tax situation. When he spoke of Zimbabwe....he offered no solution. When he spoke of other problems....the only thing he offered as a suggestion....was “talk”. I’m kinda wondering how this goes over with the Russians....who would gladly “talk” for twenty years....without agreement....if you wanted to talk.
