SHOW: GOOD MORNING AMERICA 7:14 AM EST

July 18, 2008 Friday

578 words AL GORE ONE-ON-ONE; SAYS CLIMATE WORSE THAN TERROR ROBIN ROBERTS, CHRIS CUOMO ROBIN ROBERTS (NEW YORK, NY USA), CLAIRE SHIPMAN (NEW YORK, NY USA)

CONTENT: AL GORE, CLIMATE CHANGE, OBAMA, MCCAIN

ROBIN ROBERTS (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) Amazing. The always dapper Sam Champion, thank you very, very much. Now to Al Gore's big challenge to the presidential candidates to help solve our energy crisis. The former vice president wants the country to produce all of its - electricity with Earth-friendly power sources within the next 10 years.

GRAPHICS: SAYS CLIMATE WORSE THAN TERROR

ROBIN ROBERTS (ABC NEWS)

(Voiceover) Our senior national correspondent Claire Shipman spoke to Gore about his ambitious plan and his new warning about how dire the situation is.

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Today, I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100% of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) Do you think that right now, climate change is as much a threat to our country as terror?

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Both are serious, must be addressed. That having been said, I think that the climate crisis is, by far, the most serious threat we have ever faced.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) You have praised both Barack Obama and John McCain for what they're talking about in terms of environmental policies and some Democratic eyebrows have been raised at your praise of John McCain's. Democrats worried that maybe you're, you're gonna help him get elected.

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Well, I've endorsed Barack Obama. I'm a Democrat. But I think that, that John McCain deserves credit for having provided some leadership in the Republican Party years ago at a time when it was needed.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) One of the things John McCain talks about is in addition to pursuing alternative sources of energy is renewed drilling, and he makes the case that drilling can be environmentally safe now, it's the same sort of thing that President Bush says.

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Since the first oil crisis back in the early '70s, we've been told that if we simply go for more oil, gasoline prices will come down. We need to break free of this old pattern that's holding us back and develop the renewable sources that can bring about the equivalent of $1 a gallon gasoline.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) You are on everybody's list, as I'm sure you've seen, short list for, for VP. Wanna do it again?

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Well, I, I, you're, you're looking at different list than I am. I - I've decided to impose a personal term limit of two terms as vice president.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) Many people are also talking about the fact that you would make an incredibly effective environmental czar...

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Mm-hmm.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) ...either for Barack Obama or John McCain. Is that, is that the sort of job that would interest you?

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Well, now, the title of czar is intriguing, but...

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) It's nice. In a different country maybe, but...

AL GORE (FOUNDER

Yeah. In all seriousness, I do see my role as one that's focused on changing public opinion.

CLAIRE SHIPMAN (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) Are you saying that some sort of Cabinet post might, in fact, limit your ability to influence that issue?

CLIP FROM "AN INCOVENIENT TRUTH"

AL GORE (FOUNDER

I think my best use is in trying to change public opinion and get the facts out there and get the solutions out there.

ROBIN ROBERTS (ABC NEWS)

(Off-camera) Our Claire Shipman talking with the former vice president. Chris?

The news media *must* ask Gore if Sunspot Cycle 23 explains why it’s cooler today than in 1998.

If Gore was elected in 2000 gas prices would have gotten to this level a lot sooner.

I’ll bet Weird Al wouldn’t be saying this if he had been in one of those jetliners or in the WTC on 09-11-01. He’s just working on his bank account by pimping his “carbon credit” scam. Shame on Good Morning America for letting him get away with it.

Doesn’t Gore get Secret Service protection 24/7?

I don’t think he has to worry about terrorism.

Man-made global warming theory disproved

Top Australian greenhouse expert now a skeptic

Leaving the church of Al Gore and entering the bright sunshine of climate reality.

I DEVOTED six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian Greenhouse Office. I am the rocket scientist who wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia's compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, in the land use change and forestry sector. . .

There has not been a public debate about the causes of global warming and most of the public and our decision makers are not aware of the most basic salient facts:

  1. The greenhouse signature is missing. We have been looking and measuring for years, and cannot find it. . . .
  2. There is no evidence to support the idea that carbon emissions cause significant global warming. None. . . .
  3. The satellites that measure the world's temperature all say that the warming trend ended in 2001, and that the temperature has dropped about 0.6C in the past year. . .
  4. The new ice cores show that in the past six global warmings over the past half a million years, the temperature rises occurred on average 800 years before the accompanying rise in atmospheric carbon. Which says something important about which was cause and which was effect.

None of these points are controversial. The alarmist scientists agree with them, though they would dispute their relevance.

The last point was known and past dispute by 2003, yet Al Gore made his movie in 2005 and presented the ice cores as the sole reason for believing that carbon emissions cause global warming. In any other political context our cynical and experienced press corps would surely have called this dishonest and widely questioned the politician's assertion. . . .

The world has spent $50 billion on global warming since 1990, and we have not found any actual evidence that carbon emissions cause global warming. Evidence consists of observations made by someone at some time that supports the idea that carbon emissions cause global warming. Computer models and theoretical calculations are not evidence, they are just theory. . .

American Physical Society members re-open global warming debate

Evidence doesn’t bare out alarmist claims of global warming

Australia is openly debating the theory of global warming. Check out the seven charts hosted by the polar bear.

John Coleman, Weather Channel founder

"I am very serious about this issue. I think stamping out the global warming scam is vital to saving our wonderful way of life. So the Global warming frenzy is, indeed, threatening our civilization. Not because global warming is real; it is not. But because of the all the horrible side effects of the global warming scam. I love this civilization. I want to do my part to protect it. If Al Gore and his global warming scare dictates the future policy of our governments, the current economic downturn could indeed become a recession, drift into a depression and our modern civilization could fall into an abyss. And it would largely be a direct result of the global warming frenzy. My mission, in what is left of a long and exciting lifetime, is to stamp out this Global Warming silliness and let all of us get on with enjoying our lives and loving our planet, Earth."

Algore is the quintessential ass clown. CO2 and the greenhouse effect in general have no effect on global temperature. The primary evidence that it could be is missing entirely.
